What an emotional moment it was if you bleed purple and gold when Jodie Meeks last second three pointer didn't even draw iron. Cast the memory back to the spring of 1999 when the Tigers were completing their sixth straight losing season with draconian NCAA sanctions looming. It would have been very difficult to envision the coming decade would bring more SEC titles than any other decade in the program's history. Getting the program back to a competitive level seemed a monumental task in itself.

That this program would ascend to a level of participating in a Final Four and Sweet 16 was incomprehensible. Winning three SEC titles in the decade, only one less than Kentucky is testament to what can be achieved.

It is fitting the decade had bookend titles which is a tribute to all of the players who had the faith to join a program which had struggled after so many years of success under Dale Brown.

The titles are also a tribute to John Brady, the architecht of the three title teams who along with Butch Pierre recruited all except one of the players on those title teams. It is also a tribute to Trent Johnson who put the final nails in the structure and got a veteran team to buy into a new system and shake off the frustrations of the past two injury plagued seasons after reaching the Final For.

The vision in the spring of 2009 is a lot bettter than it was in the spring of 1999. While we all want a consistent winner and championship contender that may not happen unless great players stick around for three or for years. The foundation has been laid and if the right things occur Trent Johnson has a chance to coach the most succesful decade ever. Support him and the Tigers no matter what happens and we may have many more emotional moments including raising that long sought national championship banner to the rafters of the PMAC.

The guy can coach [TRENT]. The one before??? Not so much!!! SORRY ITS TRUE!! If Brady was coaching THIS team and they got down by 10 in the 2nd half on the road, THEY WOULD HAVE LOST!!!

+1

TJ's recruiting abilities. The only question left to be answered.

First impressions indicate you are correct.

You can't help, but take a cheap shot can you. Well, the one before has a Final Four, a Sweet 16, 2 SEC titles and 3 SEC West crowns. And for good measure he recruited all but one player on the current coach's title team. Why not appreciate that like the two responses before you?

Your 1st post was great 20. However your LOVE for Brady concerns me. He did a somewhat nice job. BUT Trent has brought THIS team farther than John could have ever done. It just means that John isn't as good of a coach as YOU think!!! BTW Congrats to Brady in his 14 years as a COLLEGE coach at a MAJOR university!! I don't hate the guy. He is just not what LSU needed.

You must be related to or are a good friend of John Brady. Your love fest of him is undeniable. It wouldn't surprise me if you are his daughter that attends LSU. If that is the case, just come out and say it.

I respectfully disagree, You can thank Temple, SR. for handing LSU most of those players.

That may be true, but it is mere speculation on your part. I could speculate that Trent could not have resurrected teh program from it's moribund state in 1997, but that would also be mere speculation.

My post was positive about all parties involved in the rise of LSU basketball from the ashes. It doesn't have to be a zero sum. Trent can be successful on his own without it being at the expense of Brady.

I was pumped. It wasn't very "emotional" though.

I have never met John Brady and have never spoken to him. The only time I have ever been inthe same building is when I have attended games. Anyway, this is not about Brady, it is about the accomplishments of the players who have worn the purple and gold this last decade and all of the coaches involved in their development.

why not leave out a shitty coach that had nothing to do with the win yesterday like everyone else on the board would do?

Brady never did this either. Brady had 11 years to build a program. He made the NCAA 4 times. Those 4 times are also the only times he has ever led ANY team to the NCAA.

Including this year, TJ has led three different teams to the NCAA. We'll see how this unfolds 4-5 years down the line, but Trent is easily a better coach and there aren't many worse program managers than Brady.
