what abt with the 14th pick
Alabama OL Andre Smith
Smith entered the Combine as a mauling left tackle and surefire top-five pick who only needed to answer questions about his Sugar Bowl suspension. He left the Combine as a physically unfit 6'4/332-pound right tackle or guard prospect with a reputation for being dangerously immature. Smith's mysterious early departure from the Combine may cost him as much as $25 million guaranteed. He could still become a great player under the right coaching, but Smith has plummeted from arguably the No. 1 offensive lineman in the draft to No. 4 or 5.
Previous Draft Projection: Eighth overall (Jacksonville)
New Projection: 16th overall (San Diego)

If we have secured our defense via FA, I would be very happy wth this pick.

If he does fall to us, do we take him and trade Jamaal Brown?

iam hopeing brown gets traded soon he would free up alot of cap room for us to do alot more

I'm not so sure scouts see him as a left tackle in the pros. Some scouts don't even think he's a right tackle in the NFL and that he'll have to slide inside to guard.

i would stay away from him
he left the combine with out telling anyone

hard for me to imagine he would not be the BPA by far if at #14, a must pick- then deal with it later. See: Ricky Williams then draft Deuce or Two solid DEs and get Will Smith.
You can find a few mocks with him lower but I put SF @ 10- big need and Singletary would get his arse in shape or Washington @ 13- super need as absolute bottom.
just imho

SF @ 10 assuming QB is taken care of. Too many variables.

Isn't Brown still under his rookie contract that wasn't even that expensive in the first place? Why trade a pro bowler LT who is still young?

Because he's really not that good. He holds like crazy and gets beat quite a bit. I was very surprised when I heard he was going to the pro bowl this year. Might as well get the maximum for him from some other GM that actually believes he's a pro bowler.
As far Andre Smith is concerned, please no. Anybody that lards their way to the combine has mega-bust written all over them.

I would rather have Wells, Jenkins, or Maualuga if they drop.

I can't see Smith as a LT. I don't think he has the footwork. Maybe we will see during his pro day.

Jenkins as a FS would be the best selection if available.

id rather a defensive player @ 14. but that being said if they wanna trade J Brown then we need a good LT. Andre Smith is gonna be a really good pro, he just made some really stupid decisions in the way he has handled all the pre draft stuff. i wouldnt be mad if he ended up being a saint.

we need another OT anywa
brown is serviceable (but not a long-term option with his potentially shot career), but stinch sucks
if we could get a legit LT, we could move brown to the RT position that he fits in. upgrade 2 positions with 1 move
