Vegas in May

I'm going to Vegas in May for UFC 98, and I'm trying to figure out a place to stay. I've been there before and stayed at Mandalay Bay and the Bellagio, but this time I'm looking to stay someplace cheaper. I found some good deals on the following places: Palace Station, Terrible's, Sahara, Fitzgerald's, Golden Nugget, and Excalibur. Anyone stayed at any of these places before, or know anything about them?

Bally's. Its right in the middle of the strip and connected with Paris. Good prices and nice clean rooms.

I would stay away from Terrible's and Palace Station only b/c they're isolated (although if you have a car, not as big a deal).
Bally's and Imperial Palace are two "good deals" on the strip that I've stayed at and are OK, with great locations right in the middle of the strip. Fitzgerald's is decent too, but downtown. We usually stay at Main Street Station, another downtown property. Have fun!

I get comped at the Harrah's hotels and Stations hotels. But will second the above rec, Paris and Bally's are both very clean and yet very affordable in contrast to their mid-strip brethren.

Go straight to the Venetian Hotel. Great rates and every room is a suite. Best location.

Thanks for your help people, but I have already done extensive research and the ones I listed are the ones I have to choose from.

$299+ a night isn't exactly the "great rate" I'm looking for.

Excalibur is the newest of the places you mention, and one of two on the Strip. It has a good location, but a lousy theme. It has been known as a dormitory type establishment. People rent rooms to sleep there, but they go to other properties to eat, gamble and be entertained.
The Sahara is at the norhtern end of the Strip. It shows its age compared to the other hotels on the Strip. For the most part it has been owned and operated by poorly capitalized outfits for decades.
I would avoid Palace Station, some of the rooms are actually motel type rooms rather than hotel rooms. Station Casinos invested in new casinos rather than maintainiong and renovating this place. It's run down, the neighborhood it is located in is not too nice. This place mainly caters to locals.
Fitzgerald's and Golden Nugget are both located downtown rather than on the Strip. Both are old properties. The Golden Nugget was renovated when it was owned by Mirage Resorts, and it is the fanciest of the downtown casinos. Fitzgerald's has never had a great reputation for anything.
Terrible's is owned by a company best known for being slot machine route operators.
I'd look into rooms at the Venetian. They are really hurting and need to keep as many rooms occupied as possible. They are renting suites for ridiculously low prices just to get some revenue from them.

Why not stay at Motel 6 then? If you can't at least afford IP, then you probably shouldn't be going to Vegas.

I am going to Vegas for the fights, not for the room. I can get really good rates on the places I mentioned, what's why I was asking. I think we are going to stay at Golden Nugget.

Lowest I could find was $227 a night + tax

Poodle and Lucky, both have resided in LV, and are spot-on.
If I had to choose off your list, I'd do as I have at least three times in staying at Excalibur or Luxor, garish Disneyesque dumps with bad layouts, but on the strip, and connected to Mandalay Bay and it's mall between MB/Luxor.
Golden Nugget, which due to it's purchase in recent years, is somewhat modern again, and the jewel of the aging downtown casinos, but out of the way from UFC-98 at MGM and the nightlife you guys probably want to partake of after the fights.
Paris offers some excellent rooms at $79 per night. Planet Hollywood has cheap basic rooms with excellent bathrooms.
If you have a rating or clout with Palace Station, then you can get rated for any Stations property, but they are all pretty much suburban and/or isolated. GVR, Red Rock, and Texas, all three are great in their own ways.
If you are rated with Excalibur, then you are rated for MGM-Mirage properties, and MGM where the fight is held.
Sahara is isolated in a decaying stretch of the strip, and smells like a fifty year-old ashtray.
Terribles is a gas station chain created hotel, and Fitzgerald's a dump. There are better options available, even if on a limited budget.
I've slummed it as a collegian with friends when broke, and/or guys out on the town trips where we stayed in dives when the town was booked for fights, football, or March Madness, but Vegas is hurting right now, and if you do some research and book ahead before the last-minute fight weekend crowds come racing in, you and the crew can get some double queen bedrooms for below a Franklin per night easily.
Vegas is hemorrhaging badly right now, they gladly will give you a room for a song, if not free.

I'm also headed there in April and have been looking for good deals. Excalibur was one of the better deals I saw on the strip, along with Imperial Palace (but dont think I'm going to stay there). Still looking myself for a good deal. Vegas may be hurtin, but they aren't giving anything away - at least not on the weekends.

Everyone keeps telling me that Paris offers these great deals, and Venetian, and that all of these places will give me a room for next to nothing? OK... HOW do I get one so cheap? The rooms at Paris were nowhere near $79, and the Venetian rooms were $227+... I have searched on kayak.com and the best offers I found were at the ones I listed. As of now, I am planning on the Golden Nugget.

That's exactly what I've discovered. During the week you can find great rates, but weekends are just as expensive as ever.

Yes, weekends are the rake. Also there are a few conventions in town that weekend( https://www.lvcva.com/meetings/convention-calendar-detail.jsp?id=33907)..But there are deals to be had.
