At what point should I just give up and nuke my yard? 80% weed and it’s a mess

Attempted to put down Bermuda April of 2025 and it somewhat took

Now, it’s a fricking mess

I did weed and feed in March but I didn’t see any results. Big time operator error

I took a video and then did screenshots. Grass is cut now, though.

The entire yard pretty much looks just like this.

Yeah I think you’re into nuke it territory particularly if it’s a smaller yard.

Would you recommend I split? Front yard first, back yard after?

I’m just going to put down St. Aug seed. Hopefully it’s not too late in the season for that.

What would you recommend for nuking it?

Establishing a quality warm season grass from seed isn’t easy and really requires irrigation if possible.

Do you have experience with this approach? If not I’d look at doing plugs or just installing sod in sections based on your budget. By the time you pay to water seed you’d be surprised at how close the cost difference actually is compared to other options.

I WFH and can regularly water the lawn

To answer your question, zero experience

If you don’t have in ground irrigation or experience in doing this I’m just telling you straight up you need to go on YouTube and find a video showing you what’s involved.

And if it were me I would absolutely plug or sod.

Sod

Plugs

Seed

Yep. Msma will crush all those weeds and leave just your Bermuda. Then fertilize it.

If you’re not gonna resod the whole yard and instead go with seed, I’d just keep what you have and hammer it with msma.

Exactly the way I would handle, too.

Why not resod?
While you have it bear, drop some irrigation in the ground

I'm only finding this in 2.5 gallon jugs.

Is there anywhere that sells smaller amounts?

It’s not approved for residential use. Pretty hard to get in any quantity.

I'm seeing it on Amazon but don't see any restrictions on buying listed.

Amazon link to generic...I think...lol

Is this not the same?

I would nuke just because of that goose grass or whatever. Probably have to pull it out after anyways. Would do it a few times then sod.

St Augustine is not available in seed, only sod.

As stated, MSMA is not labeled for residential use, hence it’s a violation of federal law to use it in that manner. But it is not a restricted use pesticide and hence it’s readily available for purchase without a need for a pesticide applicators license. Being it’s not labeled for residential use, this is why you won’t find it in smaller containers.
