America 2026? The astounding lack of craftsmanship

This was a ‘repair’ made at a well known inn on the Gulf Coast.
Setting aside the bolts not being countersunk and filled in to hide it and match the adjacent original support, the overruns on the saw cuts, the gap to the step, and the new 2x4 missing notches for the spindles…
…how in the world can one not find an 8” section of 2x4 that doesn’t have bark on one it??
Work done by a couple of white guys.
And stuff like this is more the rule than the exception seems like. How many people still take pride in their work?

Def a dying breed of craftsmen out there.

Owner should have paid an actual contractor and not a couple meth heads from Craigslist

That looks like a bear's butt sewed up with barbed wire.

"Craftsman says it'll be $200, can we get someone to do it for $25?"

quote:not really. The dying breed is owners willing to pay for the craftsmen to do a job that takes time and the proper tools. Instead of a crackhead with a 2x4 and a skill saw
