Greystone or Pelican Point membership?

I’ve never played Greystone and I played Pelican Point a few times in the past but it’s been years. Which one is better? The membership at Greystone would be $249 and it includes the pool where the kids can swim. To get the pool at Pelican, I’d need to get the Links instead of the Lakes and it would be $349. Both prices are without the cart plan, but I should walk more anyway. I could go with The Lakes at Pelican and have access to the Links after 3:00pm but no pool.
No pool isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker if the Lakes at Pelican is far and away better than Greystone, though. Anyone have any advice about both to help me decide?

Walking at Greystone is a real chore.
From the clubhouse to #1.
From #5 to #6.
From #9 to #10.
Not recommended.

There is no comparison between Greystone and The Lakes (it is a 9 hole track).
IMO.

The Lakes membership includes the Links after 3.

For free?
I was told that The Links is not in good shape right now by a member.

Where can I find a hole layout or course map? All I can find it individual hole layouts but I can't find anything that shows it all in relationship to the clubhouse.

Supposedly it's part of the Lakes membership. I need to call to make sure I'm interpreting the info correctly.

I've confirmed with friends who are Lakes members.
Plus cart fee after 3p at the Links.

quote:It’s an extremely short walk. And an easy one. Unless you are walking an old school, back and forth layout like Webb or BRCC, it’s the shortest walk nearby. And it’s very flat. I’ve never heard this complaint before. Name a shorter one. Santa has some big separation between holes. So does Beaver. So does Copper. So does the island. The path length at Greystone is only 5.5 miles. And you don’t stay on path when walking.
Walking at Greystone is a real chore.

Thank you for saying this, because looking at the satellite pics of the property sure doesn't scream anything out of the ordinary, so I was genuinely confused.

I'm a Lakes member. It allows me to have a place to play at a price point that does not make me feel bad about playing elsewhere. Yes, the Lakes is a 9 hole course. It's also very walkable. The Links course is not. You can walk it. But there are long stretches between holes that are just not enjoyable. I play the Links course a few times a year for the cart fee ($28) after 3pm. That's enough for me.
I would not want Greystone as my home course. It's fun to play every now and then, but not something I want to do all the time.

Yes I’m leaning towards the Lakes at Pelican to be honest. Can’t really beat the price for it either.

I’ve never seen anyone walk GS besides the high school kids. It seems like it would be pretty miserable, but maybe not. You’d definitely have grumpy members complaining if you’re the slightest bit slow.
A good player could walk and it would not be a pace issue, for sure, but I’m not sure about a high handicapper.

Go play it some before deciding. It’s a tough layout with lots of forced carries and not everyone enjoys it. The monthly golf ball replacement budget will be higher too.

Members are used to playing sub 4 hour rounds lol. I’ve walked it many times. There’s not really a walker crowd/membership that’s true, but that doesn’t mean it would be trouble. The front is 3 miles. The back is 2.5. There are no elevated tees or greens. It’s less than 300 yards from the pro shop to first tee. It’s about the same from 5 green to 6 tee. There are no other long jumps. In fact, most are very close which is more prevalent on the back. Idk… I’ve traveled and walked a ton. No course I’ve walked is that short.

I don't know how I'm the first to raise this, but where do you live?? You are talking two courses that aren't in the same town. I would lean towards the one that's closer to work or your house so it makes playing easier.
I agree with Ell. I'm not walking GS, but compared to most courses, it's a fairly normal and easy walk. It ain't Webb, City or BRCC, but once you get started, it's not a bad walk. The walk from the clubhouse to 1 would suck, but that's really about it.
I would find a member at Pelican and GS and see how the two courses are with members. I played Pelican a few years ago on a Friday and it was a place I could see hanging out and getting beers after the round. They had a guy playing guitar and everyone was hanging out on the back deck. I don't know if I caught a random day or if this is the norm or still the norm. Idk much about the GS hang/vibe, even though that's where I play most of the time. But before I join somewhere, I'd figure out the food situation. Who has a good chef/menu. When are the money games. What do they play for. How easy is it to get a tee time. Is there a group if golfers I fit in with. Is there a group of golfers my skill level that I can compete against. What's the typical pace of play? Can I get around on a random afternoon in a couple hours?
I don't think you'll have assessments or initiation at either, so the financial questions aren't really relevant.

Pelican Point is horrible. Never is kept up in good condition. Always horrible fairways and hard as rock.
Absurd they're charging what they are right now. $70 to play the 9 hole and $140 to play Links.

I had not heard that is their rates. Good grief
I do know GS has some good tourneys.
I used to have a lakes membership and enjoyed walking the 9 hole. Id play different tees to keep it interesting. Could walk 9 after work in 1.5 hrs. The walk from parking to first tee was longest part.
I rarely played linked. Actually like lakes layout better when I was 18

It’s strictly private at Pelican Point now, and the membership is all you pay. What are you talking about? Unless you’re referring to the guest charge?
