quote:

“[T]here's been a certain narrative that has not been accurate in all of its aspects, but because of the political situation created when on the first day of the trip, the President of the United States made some comments about myself,” the pope said.

“Much of what has been written since then has been more commentary on commentary, trying to interpret what has been said.”

He pointed in particular to his address at the April 16 prayer meeting for peace in Cameroon.

“Just one little example, the talk that I gave at the prayer meeting for peace a couple days ago was prepared two weeks ago, well before the president ever commented on myself and on the message of peace that I am promoting,” he said.

“And yet, as it happens, it was looked at as if I was trying to debate again the president, which is not in my interest at all.”

Leo XIV said he intends instead to continue proclaiming the Gospel and promoting peace.

Ah, yes. I suppose that's why multiple threads addressing his comments have been started on this very board over the last 72 hours or so.

The status as a discussion subject here defines "Relevance"?

Yeah. The most relevant story in the world right now (our conflict against Iran) is pinned at the top of the page.

That is disingenuous as hell.
The Pope opened the "conversation."
He knows it.
The world knows it.

Lying about that fact is a very bad look.
If the Pope wants to "clarify" that his nasty antiwar rhetoric pertained to Cameroon rather than the far more complex US-Iran situation, he has the stage and microphone to do it.

So you think the Pope didn’t have US intervention even partially in mind with his comments?

Just checking to see if you’re as disingenuous as the Pope.

at every parish across the world this occurs. The people who are non-Catholic don’t understand that. Every mass we pray for the world and for peace and conflicts that are ongoing.

And we pray for the Pope and our bishops.

I pray the Pope learned a lesson and will not use his position to divide people again.

Every sunday… does every catholic priest on earth refer to the POTUS as a "tyrant"?

Every sunday… does every catholic priest on earth intimate the POTUS is "dragging that which is sacred into darkness and filth"?

If the Pope had simply been praying "for peace, for victims, and to end suffering," Trump would have been right there praying with him.

Nobody has a problem with the Pope calling for peace. We have a problem with gaslighting us that Lebanon is a shining example of Muslim and Christian unity and private meetings with Jewish leftists like David Axelrod.
