If tweet fails to load, click here. On September 3rd, 1948, 6 days after polls closed in Texas's Democratic primary runoff, election officials in the dusty South Texas town of Alice made a startling announcement. They had discovered uncounted votes in precinct 13. A ballot box that had reported 765 votes for Lynden Johnson on election night now showed 965.
200 additional votes, all for Johnson, added 6 days after the election. Election judge Luis Salis examined the tally sheet. What he saw shocked him, even though he had been expecting it. The number seven in 765 had been changed to a nine. Someone had simply extended the lip of the seven downward with a pen. Now it read 965.
Solace looked at the names of the new voters. 202 names, all written in the same handwriting, all signed in the same ink, all cast in alphabetical order. And according to later investigations, most of them hadn't voted at all. Some were dead. Some were out of town. Some claimed they never went to the polls that day. But their votes counted.
SOLOMON was right …
What has been is what will be,
and what has been done is what will be done,
and there is nothing new under the sun.

Did it alter the election outcome?

Yep. LBJ won by 87 votes!!

The most infamous element of the 1948 Texas Senate race centered on “Box 13,” a ballot box from Jim Wells County, Precinct 13. Johnson gained an additional 202 votes from this precinct in the final count, all added after the initial returns. These votes were highly uniform—reported in alphabetical order, cast at the end of the day, and almost exclusively for Johnson. This sudden bump provided the margin Johnson needed to overtake Stevenson.
The Jim Wells County Democratic machine, controlled by political boss George Parr—known as the “Duke of Duval”—played a central role in delivering these late returns. Parr and his allies had long dominated South Texas politics through patronage networks, economic leverage, and control of local election officials. Testimony from poll watchers and county clerks in the weeks after the election suggested irregularities, including allegations that the voter list for Box 13 had been altered or padded with fictitious names.

To be fair, first he got the job by simply saying “sure, I’d send troops to Viet Nam”

Then, mysteriously, a box of uncounted ballots was “discovered” in the south Texas town of Alice in Jim Wells County, Precinct 13. Confusion reigned in Texas and by the end of the week, LBJ won by 87 votes

I've noticed a pattern. The longer votes are counted after the polls are closed.... it always seems to benefit the Dim candidates.......hmmmm?

Palesin comparison to his 1960s decade worth of efforts... getting JFK assassinated, bunch of liberal great society garbage that most definitely was the beginning of the end of American dominance and greatness, and add in the Vietnam conflict.

I have never experienced a presidential election that could compare to the 2020 election, where chaos was the common denominator throughout the country.
There were way too many red flags sent up during the day and night to accept the end result with complete confidence. And when some states took days and even weeks to report their conclusions, shady is the word that comes to mind.
Yes, I believe with all my heart and soul, that the Democrats stole the 2020 election.

I've heard some higher profile Dims claim they rigged/stole the 2020 election fair and square.

Wasn't he part of the political arm that killed Kennedy and became President?

When My Uncle was stationed in Long Binh, '67-'68, LBJ came and talked to the troops, he opened up with, "I want to tell you, the people of America are proud of you boys", when it was quiet after that phrase, he said you heard some soldier scream out, "FRICK YOU"!!!!

I read Means of Ascent, a biography of LBJ’s life up until he ran for president, and yeah, the author was fairly sure he had cheated his way past the much more popular Stevenson.

LBJ was an awful President. The war on poverty was a hoax ..broke up the nuclear family and kept people “ on the plantation”…..go look up the Moynihan Report…

Nope. LBJ lost the primary and faded into obscurity.

His power as a congressman certainly helped transform the state of Texas with federal infrastructure investment.
