Chester Nimitz for comparison.

Not really. It's a cultural thing. Nimitz had way more chest candy than that, just didn't wear them all.

US Army is doing the same thing now. Only two rows of the highest awards.

Yes, exactly.

In addition to his modestly, Nimitz is also sneakily demonstrating The Shocker.

Ike had a single row.

It’s about ego. Some of these guys look like Soviet era Field Marshals. It’s ridiculous.

Yea he’s obviously one of the top military officers in the country.

Still, that’s by far the most I’ve ever seen.

I suppose he was deployed a lot and his units got a lot of commendations?

Not on purpose. He's missing that part of his finger. Got it chewed off on a diesel engine on one of the ships he was assigned to when younger.

Ike had waaaaay more than the single row he displayed. Same as the Nimitz photo, it's a cultural thing of that era.

Yeah that's just a little much, bottom 8 rows could be dropped.

Tons of those ribbons are theater related and as region commander would get them for any of his units that went somewhere.

Bronze Start with no V device, many officers get those for just doing their job.
Legion of Merits and Defense Service Medals are just given out like candy these days.

Compensating.

The military should really make officers wear service stripes. That way you could tell which ones have experience and which kissed arse to get their rank.

Looks ridiculous and I would bet dude is a huge tool. Could be wrong though, reminds me of all the high ranking State Police douchebags who do nothing but walk around with their patent leather shoes and shiny brass

Here's an example of the current trend in the Army going back to a row or two displayed. Current Army Chief of Staff (and my old Brigade Commander) General Laneve:

He has way more awards than that. I was even there when he got presented a couple of em.

Really only needs to be top 3 or 4.

I don’t even see his GWOT expeditionary medal.

Pog!

Service stripes or overseas stripes? I mean service time you can know just by commissioning date.

Officers do wear overseas service stripes. Well, in the Army anyway.
