LIV CEO Scott O’Neil recently sent an e-mail to the LIV Golf staff in the wake of rumors about the league’s future. This excerpt comes from a source within LIV’s league operations: “I want to be crystal clear: Our season continues exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle. While the media landscape is often filled with speculation, our reality is defined by the work we do on the grass. We are heading into the heart of our 2026 schedule with the full energy of an organization that is bigger, louder, and more influential than ever before. “The life of a startup movement is often defined by these moments of pressure. We signed up for this because we believe in disrupting the status quo. We have faced headwinds since the jump, and we’ve answered every time with resilience and grace. Now, we answer by doing what we do best: putting on the most compelling show in sports.” LIV’s Mexico City event is scheduled to tee off at 1:15pm local time on Wednesday, as originally planned.

Right after NUCLR Golf put out this rumor… where do they come up with this stuff?

PIF will continue to fund LIV Golf for the foreseeable future

I don’t know what that means

It doesn’t mean anything. All this tells us is Scott O’Neill and the high up LIV execs are projecting confidence to their constituents, I.e their players and employees.

All the reports last night and today said the high likelihood was LIV Mexico went ahead as scheduled and then things would be reassessed.

This could mean that everything is fine and all of the other reports were 100% wrong, or Scott O’ Neil is lying through his teeth to present a brave to his constituents while he tries to find a life boat behind closed doors. Or anything in between. We won’t really know until the end of this season (unless it’s a true just folding up shop can’t afford the lights on situation)

You’re celebrating getting 3 more months after a Stage 4 diagnosis… They may survive, but they gonna have a rough go of it if they do.

I’ve been consistent the whole time that I thought it was unlikely they pull the plug mid season because of the logistical/legal issues and the fact that Yasir doesn’t want egg on his face.

But something clearly happened behind closed doors over the past few days. Maybe O’Neil/Yasir were able to convince MBS to continue full steam ahead. Maybe they convinced him to give them enough runway to finish the season which initially he wasn’t going to do. But the smoke from this doesn’t come from nowhere. Whether the fire has been permanently put out or just temporarily lessened is something we won’t know for a few weeks at least

It’s literally all tied to PIF releasing their 5 year strategy. They've clearly adjusted things due to the war in the Middle East. Somewhere along the way it got blown out of proportion that PIF was cutting off LIV immediately. It appears that is not the case.

I’m sure there is some truth to all of the rumors though

Per the Fox report posted in the other thread, exactly what most of us were saying. PIF is withdrawing but the extent and timing was up in the air and being discussed over the past couple days.

One of the possibilities was they withdraw immediately and that would’ve been the “holy shite they’re cancelling tournaments mid-season” outcome. Instead it seems like they decided to fund through the end of the season.

Based on the timing of LIVs communications and the other reporting seems like there was real fear the plug would be pulled immediately, but PIF must’ve decided at some point over the past 24 hours to commit to the full season

It’s not just a golf thing. Fox News is reporting tennis, FS1, etc is done after 2026 with PIF

I do appreciate you’re at least being rational and logical about the situation unlike the OP, and you’re the biggest LIV fan on the board.

I don’t think anyone knows what’s going to happen but I do agree the rumors weren’t just made up

Hadn’t heard that. That’s interesting and honestly gives credence to the Middle East conflict theory

Jim has been extremely rational with this. To be perfectly honest, Jim has been rational the whole time as my FOIL.

Looks like they’re calling it on that flag football league Tom Brady is involved in too.

They’re obviously also big players the Premier League and Formula One.

It’s obvious PIF is making significant changes to their strategy. No arguing that.

I don’t know what that means long term for LIV Golf. It’s not looking good currently but things can change. Rumors running wild today but the truth is that PIF is making changes to how they spend their money moving forward

I think the one thing you are now admitting without saying it is LIV isn’t real. It isn’t viable. It can’t survive without a money pit simply propping it up

It’s the WNBA. And that’s fine if the Saudis want to dump their money there

Eh, not 5 years in at least. Golf “media” or golf twitter at least is working against them the whole time too

They just got OWGR pts. I think it could still get there, but they will need the PIF in 2027

Remember the Saudis also just put millions of dollars into the Paramount purchase of Warner.

It took them nearly 24 hours to quell rumors that they were folding? Damn.

I would imagine they held the email until they knew whether they were waiting to the end of the year or not
