Stats tell the story...

I was curious how Jake was doing in the SEC HR totals so I looked up the SEC baseball stats. Good news is Jake is doing well. Bad news is that LSU as a whole is doing piss poor.
The stat pages list the top 10 for each category. LSU has very little representation in hitting, pitching, or fielding stats. In yrs past LSU was well represented in these lists. In short, the team is not doing well on any front. The bad side here is that LSU does show up in the negative stat leaders like Wild Pitches and Passed Balls where we have multiple players on both lists. I dont think CJJ or Yeskie forgot how to coach since last season.
I am sure a lot of posters in here are familiar with this link but for those of us who dont see it very often here it is

What’s our fielding percentage?
Posted on 4/15/26 at 8:35 am to WylieTiger
.962, which is second to last, only ahead of Bama who is .961

In baseball the numbers are everything. They tell you and everyone else who u are. The story they’ve been telling this year since week 3 is who we be . Mediocrity abounds

I wouldn't be surprised if it really was .350

I just feel like if the run game was stronger it would really help the offense…
Maybe add in a little more pre snap motion

That is kind of what I got out of it. You have to have some leaders that competing at that individual level like Brown and Curiel. Beyond that we drop of

In conference play, LSU is
7th Batting average
6th HRs (tied)
3rd Runs scored
5th Ks
4th BBs
5th in total bases
12th steals
10th HBP (tied)
Pitching
11th ERA
2nd strikeouts
14th in walks
10th hit batters
9th in HRs given up
16th in wild pitches
Fielding
16th passed balls
16th Errors
16th in Fld%
12th double plays
9th caught stealing (tied w/ 5 others)
All rankings are from best to worst. i.e., batting K's means having the 5th fewest. Wild Pitches means we have the most.

and a leader in Passed Balls. The two stats combined are astounding.

So average on offense, bad on the mound, and comically awful at fielding.

Yep. It's why I'd like to see Yamin catch more. I know it won't happen, but his catching against Tennessee was the only time I recall not being frustrated as hell watching our catchers.
In conference games, Serna is not batting well enough to justify his defense, in my opinion.
.260 ba
.333 obp
1 HR
16 Ks
4 BB
Yamin is comparable in batting (statistically, based on a smaller sample size). Arrambide is crushing it in SEC play, and his bat needs to stay in the lineup at DH.

Our fielding is worse than the stats show. The pitching is bad too. However, pitching looks worse than it is. We've had many routine plays that should have been made but scored as hits, and they result in earned runs. But if we had a good defense, the ERA would be lower.

A lot a plays that were missed were not scored as errors. A lot of them. So the fielding is way worse than the numbers show.

When your pitching isn’t elite, you HAVE to play fundamental defense behind them to have a chance.
This might be the worst defensive infield I’ve seen at LSU in a long time. Milam is the only positive one out there

Also
13th in runs allowed
15th in Unearned runs allowed
Those two are worsened by
14th in walks
10th hit batters
16th in wild pitches
16th passed balls
16th Errors
16th in Fld%
A certain percentage of baserunners will score.
The more baserunners that do not earn their way on base with a hit and the extra bases they take without hits, the more runs you will allow.

The fielding and passed balls is what makes the team so hard to watch and causes people to get toxic about the team. It’s embarrassing to watch so many unforced errors.
