Reading a WSJ article about it and basically after the fighting is over and presumably after the USA has mostly reopened the straight the European collation will go in and “Free up” Hormuz. So for all intents and purposes after the USA has done all the hard work the Europeans plan to come in and say “it’s ok everyone we’ve got this under control now your ships can pass”.

They did this because they they wanted the US to pay the bill for solving the Iran problem, just as they want the US to pay for solving the Ukraine problem. What we should do is close down our EU/UK bases, pull out of NATO. Then we can choose our foreign engagements based on US national interest going forward.

Europe is the one walking away, not the US. Who knows their plan, but their words and actions make it clear that they no longer consider the US an ally.
