Many years ago, I posted a video about the 1982 Tigers, one of the most enigmatic teams in Tiger football history. They were a fun team to watch for most games, especially the Bama game and the FSU game (the night it rained oranges), but frustrating to watch them lose three of the last four games, including a loss to Tulane:

I was there for that FSU game. That was insane. We got up big and then the thick fog rolled in off the river. Florida State couldn’t throw deep because they couldn’t see the ball, or at least that’s what we thought in my section. lol

LSU got penalized a few times for throwing oranges on the field, but that just made the fans throw more.

Won at #4 UF-was not even close, Held Bama to zero yards in first half at Bama in 20-10 game that was not even close. Waxed FSU. Lost as 27 point favorite versus 3-8 Tulane. Lost to sub .500 Miss st….4 years in a row. 11 points away from a perfect season.

I was there.

Some cheered, " We killed the Bear and we don't care"

And then he died shortly after.

I wasn’t at the game, but my dad and grandfather were. After the game, Bobby Bowden tossed his hat into the crowd and my dad caught it. Here is the hat:

I was there as well, was going to SELU and lived in Hammond. That was my first LSU game...I was friends with QB Alan Risher. Great game, if I remember correctly, WR Eric Martin had a great game that night.

I was an LSU student in 1982. I consider the Night it Rained Oranges as the high point of my time in the student section.

I just watched the clip. I am glad they spared us the next week against Tulane in the mud.

Tim Joiner and Rydell Melancon at OLB. Al Richardson and Lawrence Williams at ILB, James Britt, Jeffrey Dale, Liffort Hobley (Ratfuc’s Dad) and Eugene (Toast) Daniel in the Secondary. Still my favorite LSU defense of all time.

True story, and you can see it on tape. As Gault runs by Daniel’s he turns his head and like the road runner says “Beep-Beep” then takes off
