Do you think tithing (10%) to the church is a Biblical requirement?

I think not

No

Tithing was not meant for money to enrich the church business model

I give from the heart, but my heart is a little hard though.

If you give 10% to the church, you're a frickin retard

I was too dumb to understand this in my 20s, when I almost had no money after expenses and rent.

So ironically at that time, I gave too much to the church, and I burned craploads of money at strip clubs.

I give, but not 10% of my income lol. I split my monthly tithing between Holy Rosary's general collection and their Full of Grace Cafe. That way I help the church and community, and I also don't feel bad for taking a free meal for my family when picking up my kid from catechism . They have some good food sometimes!

Jesus didn’t charge a cent to hear His word.

I seem to recall Him having an unfavorable view on money changers…

That was prob an idea before the government started raping us on taxes, healthcare, and insurance to take care of themselves and maybe some to those who can’t take care of themselves. Add another 10% and their ain’t much left.

10% and the tax exempt has made this the modern day image for churches.

I’d listen to David Koresh before that clown.

Some of the most successful people I know give generously to their church. I don’t think I could objectively call them a retard. They could buy and sell you and me many times over.

People were being raped of their produce and agriculture under Mosaic Law as well. Nothing has changed.

10% of a million dollar salary is $100k.

I can guarantee you they aren't giving $2,000 to the church every Sunday morning.

I actually give a little north of 10% net each month. I don't do it because I feel like there's a spiritual gun to my head. I do it because my church is very transparent with where the funds go and I have seen it at work in people's lives.

Just about every night of the week, there's an event of some kind at the church. Sometimes it's recovery, sometimes prayer gatherings, community service projects, outreach to the community, student ministry, etc. All of which is funded entirely by the tithes of attenders. If I didn't trust what my church was doing with the money, I wouldn't give to nor would I attend that church anymore. My wife and I haven't regretted a dime we have given.

My effective tax rate more than covers it. Government inefficiency aside, the mechanism of getting resources to less fortunate is there. Unfortunately, the moochers are too. Suspect that is not new as compared to 'ancient' times.

Principle of helping others in significant way on regular basis, on board.

Principle of Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus tune, not on board.

No, but first fruits of labor is the ask. Might be different for different people.

There's context to that story that most people miss.

There’s nothing wrong with giving 10%, but do keep in mind, in those days, the church took care of the poor, elderly..a lot of the things your tax dollars are used for today.

Absolutely not. First off, we are under a completely different covenant, and as such, dead to the law of Moses, of which we were never under anyway. There’s 613 of them BTW, not 9, 10, or 11 with this new tithing thing people want to add into the salvation gumbo.

Jesus wants you to give as your heart desires as He loves a cheerful giver. Those making rules like this are in confusion with the gospel and the covenant we are under. You don’t mix Jesus and Moses.
