Mossberg 620k 22mag "Chuckster"

My father passed and he's got some guns that I don't want.
I want to keep his airweight 38.
But the Colt Official Policeo 38 is just not practical for me.
Neither is the Colt Frontier Scout Chrome 22 revolver for me.
However, there is a 22mag Mossberg Chuckster that I am torn on. He never hunted. Barely ever shot it.
What can I do with it?
Let my son shoot it? What do you do with a 22mag? Kinda wish it was a 22LR.
I want to keep his airweight 38.

Because they were your father's. He liked them. His grandson will be happy to handle and tell the story.
Im really depressed to hear youde even consider selling. Must have not had a relationship w your dad that transcends his death.

I did not have a great relationship with him. I learned to fish on my own.
My uncle took me hunting.
Our family was reintroduced to him after 20 years when he got dementia and could not pay his bills.
The guns don’t mean anything to me. Asked my brother and he said no he doesn’t want them either.

Still… Maybe shield them from whatever reason for the distance in the relationship. Give the next generation the opportunity to be interested imo

The Mossberg 620 Chuckster 22WMR is worth $200-250 in the condition you described. If it breaks, used replacement parts are nearly impossible to find. See if you can work out a trade for a Ruger 10/22 .22 LR. Ammo is cheaper and every kid needs a 10/22

Before all this, I bought each child a 9mm and an AR.
Back in the Obama days t seems like a good investment. They have guns.

Sorry to hear about the relationship you had w/ your dad. I hope you get something worked out w/ the gun that makes you satisfied. A long time ago (prob about '78 or '79) I bought a "Chuckster" for my cousin in Magnolia, AR. The gun was on sale at the TG&Y near my home in Monroe, LA. Many of y'all aren't familiar w/ TG&Y, but it was basically an inexpensive variety/dime store. It was on sale for $49. I walked out the door w/ the one having the best trigger. After putting an inexpensive scope on it and working on the trigger, it was pretty accurate. He killed a lot of squirrels w/ it. I remember he also killed a coyote on one of our squirrel hunts. He hunted the creek bottom to the south and I went north. Some of season deer dogs came through chasing a coyote. He quickly ended the race. We strapped the coyote to a limb and hauled it out. Unfortunately, the south end of the coyote was pointed my direction. I found out that day how bad a coyote stinks!

Eh, if the gun has no sentimental value then selling it to someone who would use it is the better way. Guns are so plentiful that I’ve sold some with no fear of not being able to replace them. No need to horde unwanted guns. I want to horde wanted guns.

This. Sell it and buy something you like and could be sentimental. There’s 0 reason to keep something that will never be used or wanted

The 22mag rifle is great for alligator hunting or small game. If you won't use it, sell it and get a marlin 10-22 that you'll shoot with the kiddos.

I have a Savage .22 WMR, and use it for all of my scouting on NWRs/WMAs. I can plausibly say that I am squirrel/rabbit hunting, and it will kill pigs that I run across. Just put a green dot scope on it. Great weapon.
