Not really. As a culture, they by nature are not innovative. Most of their gains in science and technology have come from espionage and copycatting.
So they'll continue to fail until they're able to steal the solution to the problem.

Their electric cars are already significantly better than Tesla's, and cheaper.
I don't think people here understand what china has been doing. In the US, the smartest people go to wall street, private equity, etc. In china, investment returns are capped. The smartest people go into engineering, R&D, etc.

China is still recovering from Mao's cultural revolution and have a great deal of problems of their own but as far as I can tell they don't have to play by the same set of rules that most western nations have been forced into by the globalists which can give them an advantage.

Any dumbass can make a car cheaper when the net cost of the capital to develop and manufacture it is ZERO. That's the way they roll in China, and it can't be sustained forever.
As for the "significantly better" part, doubt. Rivian's CEO said just a few months ago their teardown of Chinese EVs didn't reveal anything new to them, the sole difference is the cost to make them, and that is bankrolled by the CCP.
