Guided Bass trip Between Augusta, Ga and Mandeville, La

My son and I are going to Augusta next week. We want to stop on the way home and fish one day. Any suggestions on good guides on that route? Willing to venture off that route within reason.

Lake Lanier in NW Atlanta metro is where I would go. I love chasing spots.
A frequent poster on the OB, LanierSpots, is a former long time guide on Lanier and can point you towards some great options. LanierSpots also runs a tackleshop: Spot Sticker Baits

I gotta think Guntersville would be a great option. I don’t know any guides there but I can’t imagine a good one would be hard to find.

I second Guntersville or some of the other Tennessee River lakes. They should be in prespawn stages where as Lanier may be post spawn given the warm spells we have had this year already.
Not taking anything away from Lanier cause those magnum spots are good fun, but herring lakes are just “different”….and not always in a good sense.
Just my dos centavos

If you are staying in Augusta , Clark’s Hill is an excellent lake. I will see if I can round up a number. Love that lake. Great largemouth fishing.
About to start my charter this morning. Give me till tonight.

Agree with you on Clarks Hill LS but just fished it for three days two weeks ago and it’s not the lake it was when it had hydrilla.
Now if you get a guide that scopes I’m sure it’s a different story, but it was tough two weeks ago
(no scoping)

If you’ve never caught smallmouth, I’d highly recommend you pick a lake that has them.

I second Lake Seminole. There is some giants in that lake. My pick would be that or Lake Guntersville. Both fish very similar.

There use to be some guides for Seminole. I assume there still are

Sorry for not responding. I got swamped this week. Sorry I could not find anyone on Clarks Hill. The guy I knew that was guiding there no longer runs his service.

Almost all of the guides on the hill are chasing crappie with live scope and the ones who ain't are chasing stripers and hybrids. Almost no one doing guided bass trips on the Hill these days. The fishing is great, its just easier to put folks who don't fish regularly on crappie and stripers / hybrids. That said they have been slaying the stripers and hybrids up the river....not a lot of big ones but a lot of 4 pound hybrids and 6-10 pound stripers. There are a BUNCH of striper and hybrid guides on the hill and they are all good because they all work together. That said if you ain't booked for Masters week probably wont find a spot.

The fishing is better, in my opinion, but the duck hunting is non existent...but man for those few years when the corp let that shite get out of hand there wasn't any better public access duck hunting than the hill. Unfortunately the 634 million people hunting it every day during the season don't realize the hydrilla is gone and so are the ducks. It was pretty special for a minute for Georgia though....

One of the best (size and number) smallmouth fisheries on the east coast and south of Pickwick or some of those TVA lakes is almost due east of Augusta National. The Savannah river, for about 2 ish miles in that area is LOADED with small mouth and 3 -4 pounders are common. Also some massive stripers in the same stretch of river and largemouth and arguably the largest concentration of Bartram's Bass in Georgia and South Carolina. Its almost exclusively kayak fishing but lots of people catch their first small mouth fishing from the bank and wading. I have a 60 HP jet foot for my duck boat that I have gotten up the shoals in but its not ideal...a center console would be perfect but mine is a tiller. It works but it isn't ideal. From about Savannah Rapids Pavillion in Evans to almost Lake Olmstead has small mouth...they show up further down stream in the winter and retreat up stream in the summer but anywhere along that stretch can be productive. Not what the OP was looking for but thought I would add it for anyone interested. Unique opportunity to catch a small mouth about as far south as they can survive.
