Spoiler (he was a NY Mets pitching prospect that wasn't a real person)

George Plimpton was even creative enough to create an anagram with the first letter of each word in the opening of the story...

quote:

The Curious Case Of Sidd Finch
He's a pitcher, part yogi and part recluse. Impressively liberated from our opulent life-style, Sidd's deciding about yoga—and his future in baseball.

Happy April Fools Day - ah fib

I got a SÍ subscription as a gift in 7th grade. I remember reading the article and 12 year old me called bullshite. I did think it was funny though.

ETA: I brought the SI to school, and showed my friends. I had their dumbasses believing it. I told them I'd watched the Mets broadcast on TV, and they were talking about it. Good times.

Yeah. I was 18 then and the 168 mph was kind of like a sleigh flying of believability. I wonder why Plimpton didn't just say 108 mph to make it more believable.

Or maybe like 112, but 168? That kind of gave it away for me even at 12.

There’s a short novel by Plimpton that tells this story as a whole. It’s a solid read.

Had to look him up.

Sad story. What could have been.

Rest in peace.

The only reason I’ve heard of him is because a local radio guy (Kevin Foote) has referenced him. He use to call David Onyemata “Sidd Finch” because of all the hyperbole about how good he was before anyone had even seen him play
