Six charged in vicious late-night antisemitic attack and alleged cover-up in Pennsylvania

A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has indicted six local men on charges of violating the Hate Crimes Prevention Act and obstructing justice following a September 2024 assault on a Jewish man.
The incident, which occurred in the Oakland neighborhood, allegedly involved a physical attack sparked by the victim wearing a Star of David necklace.
Federal authorities named the defendants as Muhammed Koc, 27; Omar Alshmari, 28; Abraham Choudhry, 22; Emirhan Arslan, 24; Ali Alkhaleel, 19; and Adeel Piracha, 22.
According to court documents, the confrontation began around 2:00 a.m. on September 27 when several members of the group allegedly began shouting “virulent” antisemitic slurs at a passerby. Prosecutors say Koc and Alshmari then physically assaulted the victim, leaving him with a split lip and other injuries.
