in his three SEC relief appearances this season versus Vanderbilt, Oklahoma and Kentucky, Cowan has worked a combined 8.1 scoreless innings with two hits, one walk, 13 strikeouts and an .074 opponent batting average.

That’ll play.

For some reason he struggles against lesser teams then is awesome against ranked teams.

Yea this baffles me. Maybe the smaller teams can time his changeup better because they are used to seeing that kind of velocity in general against their normal competition whereas the Vanderbilts, Texas, OUs and Mississippi States aren’t used to seeing it and has a hard time adjusting to such a slow off speed pitch. Idk I’m just spitballing here.

I believe this is correct. He is also a change of pace when he comes out of the bullpen.

I think it's just a matter of variance. There's not a lot to read into it. The only pattern in the games he's struggled is that he's left the changeup up in the zone. He's done that against good teams and bad teams over his 1.5 years here. He's performed great a lot more than he's performed poorly.

He was beating Kentucky with his change up in the zone. It was really awesome to see.

In our 6 - 5 win in the 2025 College World Series semi. vs Arkansas: one run on four hits with six strikeouts over 5.1 innings. 5.1! I had forgotten the length he gave us that night.

Cowan is one of the more interesting enigmas we've had here. When he's on, he's practically unhittable; he always seems ot have great control.

When he's not on, he gets absolutely smashed - Milwaukee, Nicholls and Northeastern all killed him earlier this season to the tune of 12 hits for him to go just 3.2 IP with 4 of those hits being for extra bases.

In SEC play he's gone 8.1 IP given up just 2 hits, both singles

Would be huge for the Fukuoka Hawks.

Add postseason Milam to that. Although Milam has been pretty consistent hitting 0.200, then has 1 game a weekend where he gets 3 hits.
