Greens report? Anyone played recent? Are the renovations worth the new price?

I guess that depends on you honestly.. It is pricey but in the Baton Rouge area is the best course the public can still get on..

Disagree. For the price… Beaver creek, the island, and copper mill offer much more

Pelican is too expensive for what it is imo

Well no, no they don't

The Island honestly is the only comparable course as far as experience and amenities are concerned.. and yes it's a cheaper round by about 20ish bucks are so pretty and sure they charge for range balls .. I do think that price is mainly dictated by its location.. Pull the Island 10-15 minutes closer into BR and they'd be able to justify a higher price.. I love the Island btw and play it often..

Beaver is a great course.. But if you like to hit range balls beforehand (i certainly do) that's gonna cost you extra and 18 plus a large bucket of range balls and you're almost what and what price wise.. Range balls are included at Pelican and you can hit as many as your little heart desires... Can't do that at Beaver and then there the post round.. I like to sit down have cold one and food afterwards and the offerings are there it just lacks..

And Copper.. Not sure why yall Glaze this place so hard.. a round on Golf Now for Copper for the weekend is 80+ dollars .. Now granted you can buy the Copper Card and have discounted rounds afterwards but initial round will run you $99. So you'd need to go a few time to make it worth it.. Also fricking driving range, the weakest practice area (if you can even call it that) of the three mentioned , the course is Mid at best and lacks personality... Granted there is food..

So no, when you take into account the whole package

I can’t recall ever hitting more than 50 balls before a round much less 90. No issue paying $7 for 30.

You don’t have to be a member to play?

Just an overall awful course. They don't keep up with the course shape enough to charge out the arse like they do.

The renovations did nothing to help or change the course. All it did was allow them to charge $130 a round now

I’m a member at Pelican and I just can’t enjoy it. The greens are nice but the course is super meh! At least with the new bunkers they’ve actually had playable sand traps. I use it for practice and that’s about it.

The simulators in the bar/grills is an absolute shite idea. Nothing like trying to chill and grab a burger and beer with the constant banging of players in the simulators.

that is the most Baton Rouge idea I’ve ever heard, what an embarrassment

I mean you're certainly more than welcome to go elsewhere...

Are they though? I swear 4 Simulator golf places have opened up around the area here recently so there must be something to it...

Pretty suspect as those Sims at Pelican are pretty underutilized it seems.. I legit never see anyone using them..

I was gonna say the same thing. I've never seen one in use. But then, why would I play on a sim if I could play the course? The sim seems great for rainy days or winter.

True. I’m never there when it’s raining and that about the only time I’d think of using it if I knew the conditions would make it impossible to play for a week or so.

Everyone talking about price, what does it cost during the week for a non member on a reciprocal? Or is it open to public play?

The price is now 130 a round which is wild. When you can play Carter for 80 and it’s 10x nicer. It’s like they said either get a membership or don’t come.

I think I paid $105 last time I played Carter, it was on a Sunday though. Great food and cold beer afterwards and course was in great shape.

I believe $65.

It is.. that’s really what people’s issue is. Playing without a member or not on a reciprocal it is quite pricey. As a member I’m ok with it because if it was cheaper we’d have a shite ton of riff raff clogging up tee times.

That’s the problem with Carter.. as nice as it is they stack people in there. I’ve played several rounds out there above the 5 hour mark. I’ve gotten to where I’ll drive to TPC and play it instead. Because from my house it’s a 50 minute ride to Carter… TPC is about 20 minutes more. And I’ll not get held up and stuck behind some dumb frick hackers out there to drink and lose a box of balls
