Crawfish suppliers will give you every reason in the book as to why prices are high. One thing is certain though. No matter how the weather has been or how early or late Easter is, crawfish prices always magically go way down right after Easter.

Bayou Boys down in Needville (owner is from Galliano area) where they're boiled correctly...$6.95/lb this past weekend. Think my local HEB was selling for $8.99/lb.

With the current market volume being caught compared to current demand what should the price be right now? wholesale and retail

There's a little shack in Avoyelles called Effie Crawfish. Hands down the best I've had. They were selling 5 lb platters with corn and potatoes for $25 last Friday. They consistently had a line 10-15 cars deep.

$4.50 to $6.00

One market by me does what they call whacky Wednesday where they will lower the price. They had them at $4.50.

Repeat this very slowly…. Supply and demand.

And yes prices are high now because demand is greater than supply. And yes the prices always spike for Easter weekend.
And they will go down right after because many people don’t want to eat them again for a while after the Easter weekend boils.

And this this crazy thing starts happening. The weather gets warmer and more crawfish start getting caught.

Swamp Donkeys near Kingwood is about $7.99 a pound. 3 pounds with a corn and potato is $21.99. I think 5 pounds is downs to $35. All have gone down this week.

The crawfish app is pretty awesome. It'll show you all reported prices within whatever radius you want.

For anyone interested, on April 18th, St Catherine of Sienna will have their crawfish festival. 40 teams cooking. The early bird pricing is $20 or $25 and it’s all you can eat all day plus two bands. I think early bird pricing ends on April 6th.

It’s called the Old Metairie Crawfish Festival if you want to look it up.

I live in Old Gretna. Places we like are starting to get down close to $5 pound boiled (Salvos in Belle Chase).
