For Debate: Outcomes If Congress Withholds Iran War Funding

If the administration is unable to secure additional funding from Congress for the ongoing war in Iran, what do you think happens next?
Not asking what should happen—but what actually would happen in practice. Does the conflict wind down due to lack of funding, continue under existing defense budgets or emergency powers, or escalate into a constitutional showdown between the executive branch and Congress?
Curious how people see this playing out politically, militarily, and economically.

Great question. I personally don’t see Congress approving this after 60 days so I assume the most boots on the ground will be kharg island or in the strait region.

I disagree. The parties usually come together on war. Dems will say they don't want the troops to be hung out to dry and will likely fund it at least a couple of times.

AIPAC will secure funding.
Forever war in the middle-east is forever.

This is Trump, if he said air was good they’d hold their breath.

It will depend on what AOC tells the sheep to do, knowing her they will withhold money to screw Trump.

It would certainly be nice to see congress withhold funding the Russo-Ukrainian war, but they get kickbacks from funding that one, so I don't see any relief to the tax-payers coming down that road.

Honestly the best off ramp would be something along the lines of “I want to continue the war but Congress refuses to fund it.” Thus if Iran spirals into a mess can can blame it on the Congress.

We’ve gotten a ton of benefit by neutering the Russian military from the $185B-ish we spent on the War in the Ukraine since it started.

The funding is largely to replace munitions we already fired at Iran so not doing this would leave our military stockpiles depleted and we would be vulnerable

The next move is to cut Ukraine off 100% ...right?

We’ve spent less on the Ukraine War over the last 4-5 years than the rumored $200B request the DoW has asked Congress for to continue fighting Iran

What in your view would be sufficient to bomb Iran?
I know you won’t have an answer but please try to enlighten us.

Then he will just walk away from it like he has been threatening to do. As he has said several times now, we can just walk away from this any time we want.

Do you believe the Russian military has been neutered (in part by our funding of a war against it we didn’t need to participate in)?
Do you believe the Iranian military has been or is being neutered (in large part directly by the US without so far having to place troops in battle)?
Have you looked at the, list of the most powerful military’s in the world 2026? Now take the top 30 and count how many are not allies of the US
Notice anything?
