Chicago schools have shown a very positive trend.
Reading is now 40% of the national average.
Math is at 26%.
This according to the new "cut scores". What is a cut score you ask, well so did I, and had to look it up. They cut the hurdle for proficiency. Thats right, you see Chicago had some of the highest standards in the country........even though it is a standardized test nationwide. So they moved the goalposts, everyone gets a prize and a bonus and 84% of the kids graduate.
To what you might ask, well a black male is 20 times more likely to be murdered in Chicago than his white counterpart. But it isnt racism, and its not cop killers, 95% of those murdered......are killed by another black.
Now given the mayor is a former school teacher, why am I not surprised?

If you hold people accountable, to expect the best from themselves, they will try to live up to it.
If you tell them you expect almost nothing, they will expect nothing of themselves.

Don't worry about it. They will go into tech and become doctors and engineers. We just have to get orange out of office.

The cannot control their people.
But they sure can control their tax dollars.
Meanwhile I keep getting new neighbors from:
Phila
Cleveland
NJ
NY
Massachusetts
And they alllllll want to test their iteration of liberalism HERE. As if it will work in the sunbelt.

Honestly lower than I expected

The teacher's union and shitty parents are to blame and we keep subsidizing more of both.
It's the LBJ and Jimmy Carter effect war on poverty and the federal DOE creation and the consistent decline of urban schools are easy to see.

And people wonder why Indians are taking jobs. Don’t worry though all these students will still get in to college on the tax payers dime.

People say kids are different okay. They are wrong, kids are the same, parents are different. They allow just about anything and have no standard of humanity.

If you ever stay in Chicago for an extended amount of time, it’s eye opening how segregated the city is compared to the rest of the country. There are physical barriers to the neighborhoods due to highways and expressways.
The west (Latino) and south (black) are war zones responsible for almost all of the violent crime. During the summer they flood the downtown area and loot and rampage with “teen takeovers”
Would be perfect for a case study on how cultural differences result in different endings

Mississippi just raised their cutscores after multiple year increases of A and B schools and proficiency rates.
Do better Chicago.
