Dan Fogelberg's song Old Tennessee is about some friends of mine

When the song "Old Tennessee" was released I had just left Atlanta, Georgia and moved to San Francisco. I was living in a building with some friends from Georgia who moved to San Francisco with me. One of my friends was a woman named Shirley who was pregnant with twins. Her husband Skip was still living back in Georgia doing some construction work. One day Shirley's sister Jo came to San Francisco from Tennessee and moved into Shirley's apartment. I met Jo and we struck up a friendship. She told me she had just broken up with Dan Fogelberg and he was extremely upset about her leaving him. She told me his recent song called "Old Tennessee" was about her leaving him and how he wanted her to come back to Tennessee to live with him. I believed Jo and when I listened to the song I heard the verse where Dan sings, "I hear you're in San Francisco living with your sister who's a mother to be and her husband's way down in Georgia and I'm still in old Tennessee wishing you'd come home to me."
After hearing the song I realized that Dan was lamenting about Jo leaving him and wanting her to come back to Tennessee and live with him. I asked Jo if she was going to go back to Tennessee and live with Dan but Jo explained to me why she wasn't going back to Tennessee to live with Dan.
Now everytime I hear the song "Old Tennessee" I think of Jo.

Cool story but Dan Fogelberg is awful. I would rather listen to cat's yowling in a chalkboard symphony in hell than listen to Dan Fogelberg. Your friend did the right thing.

You're opinion about Dan Fogelberg is wrong. Dan had a beautiful voice and he was a very creative songwriter.
Here's a beautiful song Dan did entitled "To The Morning".

My opinion is my opinion. Fogelberg is terrible. You can't make me listen to him either, I would rather trepan myself with a rusty spork.

You're entitled to your opinion but your opinion is wrong. Is your opinion ever wrong?
Well, the Professor of Rock thinks your opinion of Dan Fogelberg is wrong . I dare you to listen to what he says about Dan Fogelberg.
He said he never met anyone who didn't like Dan Fogelberg and that he thought Dan Fogelberg had "one of the purest voices in the rock era".

Here's more from the Professor of Rock about Dan Fogelberg.

You're wasting your time trying to convince me that Dan Fogelberg is anything but soft rock elevator pablum. I don't need to listen to your fake professor to know Fogelberg sucks. I don't like dogs either, so put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Doesn't seem that Jo was much of a Dan Fogelberg fan either.

You are the type of person who even though your opinion has been proven wrong by the facts you will never admit your opinion of Dan Fogelberg is wrong.
You are entitled to have your own music preference but that doesn't mean your opinion of Dan Fogelberg is correct.
If you were a horse I'd have to drown you.

Jo loved Dan's music. That had nothing to do with why she left Dan and came to San Francisco to live with her pregnant sister.

Well, why did Jo leave Dan and go to San Francisco to live with her pregnant sister?

I reserve the right to dislike an artist's music, if you don't like it, go pound sand. And don't threaten with me drowning, you putz, that's not friendly, I've not said a contrary word about you or to you. Try being civil.

She couldn't take any more of his caterwauling.

Jo told me the reason why she came to San Francisco was because her sister Shirley who was pregnant with twins told Jo she needed her help during and after her pregnancy since her husband Skip had to stay in Georgia to continue working.

Nobody is telling you that you don't have the right to dislike Fogelberg's music.
Grow up. I'm not being uncivil to you . It's just an analogy comparing what to do with a stubborn horse dying of thirst who refuses to drink the water it is led to with you refusing to listen to what the Professor of Rock and the musicians who worked with Dan Fogelberg think about Dan Fogelberg's musical talent.
It's not to be taken literally as a threat to drown you.

I just explained in a previous post why Jo left Dan and went to San Francisco.

In the second Professor of Rock video about Dan Fogelberg that I posted the Professor of Rock said Dan Fogelberg had the purest tenor voice in the rock era. It's a good video to watch because it is a celebration of Dan Fogelberg and a lot of the musicians who worked with Dan talk about how great a musician, songwriter and singer he was.
