Inflation Adjusted (Real Cost): Gasoline was roughly 59–61 cents in 1976, which equals about $3.00–$3.50 in 2024–2025 dollars. This means gasoline is, in many years, inflation-adjusted, similarly priced to or cheaper than it was 50 years ago.

3.00 / .59 = 5.08
.61 X 5.08 = 3.10, not 3.50.

Somethings fricky.

The real question is why aren't you complaining like the rest of all of us?

I have to get gas.

I do not stress over the price because it really doesn't matter. My 36 gallon tank @ $2.20 is $79.20. @ $3.25 is $117. I fill up once every 3 weeks. Yeah it sucks that its $37 more expensive, but I have been trying not to stress about things I cannot control.

Because I recognize that adjusted for inflation it isn’t a huge increase. I do get that the volume of gasoline people purchase versus other commodities and services is different. My parents paid $13 a month for cable tv and $0.35 for a loaf of bread in 1979. Those items have increased by a factor of 10.

Same people crying about gas prices pay 10 bucks for a sugar coffee

One is a luxury one is a commodity

I wonder how many people complaining about the increase frequently eat at restaurants versus at home. I’m not saying you do, but my wife and I ate a light lunch at a BBQ restaurant today and it was $37.

Why would anyone stress over $37?

Just pick the historical year that you want the average price of commodities and services to match and then lower your salary based on inflation to the same year equivalent. Want 1976 prices, fine what would your pay be in 1976 dollars?

1976 was also the middle of its own oil crisis. You're just comparing one period of exceptionally high prices to another.
