Went to Arcadia. Did LSU have a chance in landing him. He was a stud AA at Iowa State. Pairing him with Stromile Swift could have been deadly.

I watched him a few times in HS. His teammate, name escapes me, committed to LSU, but I don’t think he was ever high on LSU. Tim Floyd was coaching at ISU and had spent time coaching in LA and recruited him hard.

My little brother played against him. He was chubby when he was younger then turned into a beast

I never had heard of him until seeing him in the State championships. I went away thinking he had more skills then Lester Earl, who was highly heralded.
Years later he’s an All American. Thought he’d do better in the pros.

That was a strong 5 year window in north central Louisiana bball. Scotty Thurmond out of Ruston in ‘92. Went to Arky and was 2nd leading scorer on national title team. Jerald Honeycutt came out of Grambling the next year. Would have ended up at a big time program, but stabbed someone and went to Tulane. Played several years of pro ball. Fizer came out of Arcadia a few years later, and ended a lottery pick in the draft.

We were on massive probation at the time. We didn’t have enough scholarships available. John Brady was still able to land Stromile and Jabari Smith at that time though.

I think North Louisiana takes South Louisiana when it comes to basketball talent. Karl Malone, Stromile Swift, Joe Dumars, Robert Parish, Antwon Jamison, Paul Millsap, Robert Williams. Whos else come out of the southern part of the state outside of Big Baby and Greg Monroe?

Willis Reed, Orlando Woolridge, and Bill Russell was born in West Monroe before family moved out west. The next 50 years SouthLa will have a huge advantage though. The AAU is such a big part of development now. Guys like Karl Malone played at little class c schools in the middle of nowhere.

This is much more recently, but Arcadia pulled off a stunner about five years ago when they ousted North Central at the state tournament.

How it always goes. Fat starts turning to muscle in high school and natural athletic ability takes over.

True but his transformation and improvement was notable especially in his aggressiveness and confidence. I say this as an absolute compliment to the guy
