Boiling two sacks for the first time at once l. Give me your seasoning ratio

I would assume just doubling would be too much salt.

You’re increasing water volume as well. I dont think itd be too salty.

What’s your recipe now? Because if it’s only 1 bag of powder, then there is no problem at all using 2 bags.

Usually one 4.5 pound dry and 1 sixteen ounce liquid with a little extra salt. 8-9 lemons, some garlic and onions

Most dry packs seasoning are heavy on sodium. I don’t add any extra salt based on that. I cook one sack at a time and add one pack Swamp Dust (it’s has lower sodium than most) and one pint liquid crab boil.
For first time, kind of hard to know, but maybe 3 bags dry and 1 pint or 1 quart liquid crab boil. Will be trial and error for first few times.

Judge it by water. You season the water, not the crawfish.
If one pack/tub of seasoning seasons the amount of water in your normal pot, how much extra water are you adding to the larger pot? 2x? 1.5x? That’s the amount of extra seasoning you add.

every bad batch of crawfish I’ve ever had had the same problem…not enough salt. Add salt

We need to know how much water you are using. How many quarts does your pot hold?
Recipes will vary based on how much liquid you have in your pot. More water = more seasoning.

Yep. This is actually a good cooking tip overall. People have gotten so afraid of salt. When people complain that restaurant food is so much better than their home cooking it’s almost always because they aren’t using enough salt

When I boil 1 sack I fill my pot to the top of the 5th ring of holes and use 1 zattarins, 1 small bottle of crab boil and a box of salt. If 1 do 2 sacks I fill to the top of the 7th ring and all of what i add for 1 sack plus a half container of zattarins, 1 box of salt and 8oz of liquid crab boil.

You really have to load it up with salt to be too much on 2 sacks though. Plus you have whatever sides you have in the pot soaking up seasoning.
I've never used a pre-made bag of seasoning but I went to a boil a few weeks ago where the guy boiled 2 sacks and added a bag and a half of Stalecracker's mix plus a bottle of zat's liquid and a bottle of hot sauce. They were fine. A little under seasoned imo but they were good crawfish. He should've thrown both bags in there. People loved them though.

Not really. If you sample your crawfish every 5 minutes, you can pull them from the water before they get too salty, even if the water is over-salted.

For 1x 30lb sack I'm doing:
-1.5x 4.5 lb bag of Louisiana boil
-8-10 oz of liquid boil
-1/2 cyl of Salt
-1 or 2 large bottles of lemon juice
-6 onions
-6 garlics
Never have been too salty. This recipe is a little mild for me, but for the rest of the family they say it is just right.

No. Your point was that oversalting the water was "stupid advice" and implied that it will lead to oversalted crawfish. My point was that is not necessarily true, and gave you an example that you agreed with.
Under-salting water is less forgiving than over-salting. If you undersalt, you won't find out until it's been a while and the crawfish aren't getting to the spice level you want. Then you either just serve bland crawfish, or add more salt and have to wait a long time. If you oversalt, you do risk too much salt / spice, but that's only if you forget to taste test every 5 min or so. I've never been to a boil and had crawfish that were "inedible" because they were too salty.
So it was good advice.

Yes, I believe telling someone to make your crawfish water too salty is stupid advice.

If it's so stupid, then why do you acknowledge that there's an easy workaround by pulling them from the "too salty" water before the crawfish themselves get too salty? It doesn't seem stupid at all if that's true.
