My daughter has been looking at schools and just came across this nugget that at Tulane freshmen, sophomore and juniors have to live on campus but not allowed to have cars? She immediately eliminated them.

But how does this work with kids that live 3 to 4 hours away and they want to go home for a weekend? It’s not feasible to fly and I’m not driving 8 hours round trip to pick up their arse.

Surely there is a work around for this.

I think you’re allowed to have a car. They just get stolen so no students currently have one.

I kept mine on the street off campus when I was there 20 years ago living in the dorm freshman year

Many freshmen keep cars in the Loyola Recplex

How about staying at school for a semester and then come home? How about taking a bus?

I did both.

It’s not that you can’t have a car, it’s that they don’t provide parking, if that helps.

Not unusual for urban campus. At least for freshmen. Through junior year seems like a lot.

You’re right. She should probably just stay there over Thanksgiving. No real need or want to spend that with family

But that would imply there is available parking nearby to leave their car.

Park on the street off campus.

Might not be Tulane material if she can't figure that out.

Get her a driver, and a limo, or at least an SUV, like a Denali or Escalade.

Tulane is a prestigious university. No Altimas for poors allowed there.

A lot of Tulane students are from the NY/NJ area, no need for cars.

It seems that has actually been a point of animus with the surrounding community as this will force more street parking. The whole decision appears short sighted from the admin’s perspective, especially when combined with forcing them to live on campus until they are seniors.

Send her to a directional state school then.

Tulane and its college life doesn't seem like a fit for someone who wants a commuter setup.

Are there lots of empty parking spaces currently on the Tulane Campus, if not where do you propose they put these cars?

Tulane has the money to build another parking garage. Their decision not to is perplexing.

It’s a rule and applies to your princess. You are the problem. You always want special dispensation for your kid NO! There someone finely told your kid no this must be the first.
