Anyone use a Mini Driver currently ?

Questions -

Do you use it every round where you play ?

What Brand and shaft are you using ?

What are the top benefits that it provide for you ?

Are you using to try to hit it straighter or achieving the height that you want ?

Do you use it off the tee mostly and how is it off the deck ?

I have been thinking about one. I'm not crazy about the TM R7 looks, but I do like it adjustability.

The Cobra model looks great. I have not checked out the Titleist model yet.

Look forward to any insights ?

I have a taylormade original one mini driver. It’s 11.5 but adjustable up to 13.5 or down to 9.5

I honestly don’t know where it fits for me. It doesn’t go as far as driver off the tee but it’s harder to hit off the deck than 3 wood. For me it basically takes the place of a driving iron but with more forgiveness and distance.

If I played golf in west Texas or the UK where it’s windy and you need to really flight the ball I would probably hit it every round.

I hold onto it because it’s a cool club and on the off chance I run into a really dry, windy, day playing golf in S. LA I have the perfect club

I tried a GT280 Titleist, wasn’t a fan off of the deck and I hit my 4 wood just as far, it really didn’t find a spot in my bag. I have a couple playing partners who use the Callaway’s and love them, but they are also terrible with their driver, see several being used so it works and fills a bag spot for some players, just not me.

I have a GT280. I treat it like a 3wood.. mostly off the tee. If I have a really long 2nd shot and a good enough lie ill hit it then..

It’s wasn’t the longest of the minis that I tested but it was the most accurate which is what I was looking for

The PXG Secret Weapon is getting really good reviews for mini drivers.

Yeah I’ve heard good things. I’d love to give one a go.. but I’d have to wait for a fitting day at my club. Because there’s no place to try it around me.

I will say I have a buddy who’s a club fitter and he’s really high on the Cobra mini.

Should hit the 3DP’s while you are at it

I have the R7 13.5 and I love it. Started hitting it in the sim since December. I have a GD VF 7x in it playing at 43.25”. I like the fact that if I want to nuke it, it goes 285-300. If I want to get one in play, I can hit a little squeeze cut that goes 265-275. It’s much easier for me to do that with the shorter shaft of the mini. Driver SS is 116-120 for what it’s worth. I usually swing the mini around 113.

Biggest improvement for me is that the misses are much better than my driver. I will put it through the paces on the course soon, but I seriously doubt it’s coming out of the bag.

I have this one and it's the single hookiest club i have ever owned. I can do nothing with it and that sucks because I think a mini would be a great club for me.

To somewhat respond to the OP, I believe minis are for people who never hit 3W from the deck and have holes where driver is not ideal for one reason or another. Both courses I play most have holes where I really want to hit this, but the hook makes it unplayable. I do not hook my regular driver on these days, so I have to think there's something going onw with this particular club.

I will probably end up getting a different one, but may need a fitting.

Yes, a 13.5° Ai Smoke with a Ventus Velocore+ Blue 6X shaft tipped an inch. It's not going left, and that's the whole point. I'm also a very low spin player, so this helps me tremendously.

I only hit it from the tee and don't carry a 3 wood. My only fairway wood is a 20° Ai Smoke Triple Diamond 7 wood.

That what it seems to me too. I’m thinking about trying one. I might hit 3 wood once a round from the fairway. But I can think of 5-6 holes where dropping the 3 wood with an easier to hit 13 degree mini off the tee will either 1. let me pull back a little to be in a position to hit a full wedge rather than having to finesse a wedge (a struggle right now for me), or 2. give me a little more length to get to full 8 or 9 irons where a 3 wood leaves you with a 6 or 7 iron, but a driver brings water into play or risks blowing it through the fairway on a dogleg.

That what I was thinking too.

I live in Greatwood, I really don't need driver that much really on our course.

Same as Sienna Plantation , especially 9 and 18.

That makes me feel better. I miss mine left all the time and part of the reason I rarely put it in play.

Have you guys tried to adjust the club to open on the hosel settings? My R7 sat closed to me as well. Opening it up made a world of difference.

I thought that was tied to loft on those adaptors?

You can't open the face without lowering the loft. Which wouldn't make much sense with the mini driver unless you have the 15.5* version or want to play the 13.5 as basically an 11.5 degree driver.

You don’t need to lower it all the way down. Sometimes 1-2 clicks open make a huge difference.
