With NIL and revenue sharing the way it is

CBB is the only other sport that clears a profit at LSU
I don't see how they clear a profit next year if they bring MM back with no one in the seats.
It only make sense to make the change sooner rather than later. I understand the buyout will be lower if you wait but the upside is more asses in the arena and more profit overall.

MBB is profitable because of the conference revenue sharing of the TV/tournament money. LSU could pick 5 random students as players, lose every single game, have no fans and never sell a Tiger dog and would still get that money.
The only question is how much money they could make if they were actually competitive and how much investment would be required to reach their potential. It is a "Is the juice worth the squeeze" problem for Verge and the money men.

A real possibility next year if he is retained.

This is the way it was before NIL and rev share as well.

The SEC tournament and March Madness are such huge money-makers for SEC basketball and College basketball that the TV rights alone make MBB profitable for all SEC schools at a minimum, given equal revenue sharing between the schools within the SEC.

TV revenue for the SEC. It's why WBB and GYM and even baseball don't turn a profit even though they constantly have a full house.

Ticket sales means very little to the football and basketball (mens) programs. They get a large portion of money through TV deals. When you understand that you realize LSU can turn a profit regardless if they are good or not. Therefore $ is not going to be the driving force with the MM situation.

Baseball is the only sport that you have to be good to turn a profit. Every other sport is either an automatic profit or impossible simply due to TV contracts. Baseball somewhat relies on butts in seats
