Does Vandy losing to Indiana help LSU or vice versa. Ya know since LSU beat Indiana

Keep downvoting for some reason. keep it going.

It's kind of a wash

From an RPI standpoint, you want to root for teams we play to beat teams we don't play.

From a general fan standpoint, I still pull for every SEC team to lose every game they play though.

In long run I guess the question is which would be better since we played both. Beating Indiana and losing series to Vandy.

I want Vandy to lose just because of the Whistler and the other Vandy fans clapping along to him.

If it matters at all, I’d Imagine it’s too minimal to really care.

Because we played both, either outcome will result in 2 different RPI scores, the net of which is:

8.0 net RPI points to LSU if Vandy wins (+12.4) / Indiana loses (-4.4).
-12.6 net RPI points to LSU if Vandy loses (-20.1) / Indiana wins (+7.5).

As one would expect, Vandy is weighted heavier than Indiana given LSU played Vandy 3 times versus 1 game against Indiana. Therefore, if you’re RPI watching at home, LSU benefits, individually, more from a Vandy win than a Vandy loss. Of course, have to also consider the result of a Vandy win to its own individual RPI points (+48.0 for a win versus -82.0 for a loss).

This little exercise also serves as a good reminder of just how little statistical benefit these games versus SWAC opponents are. LSU stands to only lose -5 RPI points tonight with a win versus Grambling State, compared to a -140 hit for a loss.
