Going to sound like a complainer but legit asking…how to we fix the BREC golf issues. Courses are not kept up with. Hard pans everywhere. Marshals that let “buddy’s” go off at random and ruin everyone’s pace of play. 5 hour rounds at Maria.

Maria could be top of the line and yes sometimes it’s in great shape. But not enough to justify their income. Also the restaurant and bar should be FULLY operational….

I have never once seen a marshal tell someone something about not fixing a pitch mark in a green. It’s getting ridiculous and yes I have done the survey multiple times and can’t get a response.

I’m not trying to just piss n moan I am looking for a legit course of action to express my issues with the current state of BR public golf….

Anyone tried to contact brec as well?

We fix BREC golf when BREC quits being woke with their equity bullshite.

Also, until you pay marshals, you're stuck with them old geezers letting their friends on. That being said, that doesn't bother me as much as SM letting the same group book all the tee times in the morning regardless of if they show up and play or not.

It's damn near impossible to get a last minute tee time out there.

it seems like Brec doesn’t give a shite about people that play public golf on their courses. You can tell from the spin of that golf survey for city that turning city into a pitch and putt is a foregone conclusion.

If you want to blame someone blame the supervisors. They’ll piss money away on bullshite at Dumas and the zoo while the courses wither.

Edit: I know some guys in those early groups. They religiously log in and book those tee times via phone. All of them have the date and time on the phone ready to call. It’s not some inside job.

The issue with SM is that they do not have to do any of the things you are saying to drive business. They are constantly booked and even overbooked as you mentioned, and the status of the course, the sometimes rude marshals, and the complete disregard for ever getting that kitchen open have no effect on the people that like playing there.

The only things that would force some change are the threat of losing business or the opportunity of significantly raising their business, and I don't believe they have either of those right now, unless they were to break away from BREC and run the course themselves.

Bro, IF ever I hit the green from 100 yards out, I'm gonna spend 10 mins fixing it just so everyone knows I hit it from more than 10 yards out.

That and it's literally the only public driving range in BR ... Lord knows what kinda doe theyre raking in by the shitty practice area alone... and With them making you hit off mats 90% of the time the maintenance is probably a non factor

I started going to SM because I was burned out on Webb. SM takes 4-5 hours for 18 so now I’m burned out there.

Honestly making me want to quit golf. Thank god for the islands

I don’t think it seems like it…. They flat out just don’t give a frick. Everyone pays a shite ton of taxes into it and they sit on that shite. It’s like the fricking library system.

Spend money where it won’t be utilized like the shite zoo and Clark… and then say frick SM, Webb and City Park. How can you not have a functioning bar in a neighborhood course? God forbid they send out some cart girls.

That’s why I’ll run to the Island or out to Carter when I can’t play with my buddy at UC. If I’m staying in town, I’ll just go get on at Webb. At least I know what to expect and won’t be pissed the entire time.

shite, I don’t mind playing copper either. If I’m driving out there though, I just assume hit The Island or Carter if times are available.

Move to St Tammany, won't have to worry about public courses since there are none.

I’ve noticed an uptick of people just walking on and playing without paying the last couple years, specifically at SM.

City Park is WAY worse. Usually same 3-4 people too. Right in front of the employees.

That just pisses me off tbh. No reason for such abysmal running of the course. It’s really a shame but hey it’s on par with all of Baton Rouge tbh

And honestly I would 100000000% support SM leaving brec to become their own semi private club. Make it $80 per round. I just hate that BR is in. This shape with golf for the common person

One thing all BREC courses need to do is have different rates for parish residents. Giving non residents cheap golf at the expense of EBR tax payers has always bothered me. Many other counties and cities have similar rate structures for municipal courses.

I’d be willing to bet around 30% of the play at Santa comes from outside EBR

There is zero incentive for
Brec to get better! It’s not a business who relies on doing a good job to stay in business.
They can do a D plus job and keep their job. Baton Rouge is cursed for public golf forever!

I agree with that in theory, but I wouldn’t call SM cheap at $65 weekend rates.

this is coming from someone that works in the golf business on the maintenance side. when a course is that busy all the time, it's extremely hard to maintain it properly and keep it good all the time. Not making excuses but when the golf course is fully slammed at 9:30am, how do you expect workers to get work done while being respectful to golfers with the equipment noise? Everyone wants to complain why this isn't done and why that isn't done, why do that suck, why is this and that. just my two cents. no one ever thinks about that. it's just always to straight negative when something isn't right. everyone is spoiled. back in the 90's and early 200's, 30k rounds of golf was extremely busy but it allows maintenance to maintain golf courses. now SM run 50k+ a yr. that's just insane numbers to think about with zero window these days to properly get work done being open 7 days a week. every course should be closed for a maintenance day.

The course should be closed every Monday. That’s why Carter is able to maintain pristine conditions
