Rome Series on Max

I know it's old but, I just stumbled across it on Max.
It's actually really good. A few GOT alum playing parts in this series.
Follows a lot of the reigns of Ceaser and Pompey.
Mance Rayder as Ceaser
Sand Snakes' mom as Niobe Vorenus
Edmure Tully/ Black Jack Randall (Outlander) as Brutus
Ray Stevenson as Titus Pullo
Maybe could have done better casting Cleopatra.
But, I'm enjoying it so far.

It’s an all timer for me. Loved it. Wish they hadn’t hurried season two because hbo cut their funding. It covers too much ground that season, but I love it.

The first season was pretty solid but they seemed to be mailing it in as the 2nd season wound down. I think I read in a thread in here a few years back that they kind of abandoned it because they were gearing up for a new series that was upcoming but I forget what it was.

It's a very fun series. I tried to do a board watch/rewatch thread a year or two ago and it didn't catch on.
Titus is an all time great character. Sadly it had a short run. If it were made today, post GoT, I think it would have done better.
Disagree here. i thought she was great. The Scene where Cleopatra was trying to hook up with Lucius but he decides to stay faithful to his wife so they call in Titus was freaking hilarious. Titus coming back to the tent and laying down after Lucius had to listen to the crazy sex

Was just thinking maybe the sand snake mom looked more like I always thought Cleopatra looked. But, yes, that scene where Lucius had the will power to walk away, only yo hear Titus and Cleo going wild was pretty funny.

My favorite character in the show.

So, Rome was cut short to make way for GOT? I guess it makes sense that some of the same actors are in both.

I think that is correct, the folks in that thread were talking about how they pulled the funding from Rome for the new series and I think that's the one

I don’t think so. I think Rome predated GOT by several years.
I always understood that budget constraints and the popularity of the show (or lack thereof) were the issues.
I think the BBC pulled funding after Season 1 didn’t go gangbusters.

No. Game of Thrones didn't air until years after Rome was done.
It was cancelled because of cost and relatively low viewership. The first season of Rome cost over 100 million to make. For comparison, the first season of Game of Thrones was 50-60 million.
Rome was critically successful but didn't have the viewership to continue such an expensive show.

Completely incorrect.
Rome came out and was cancelled 5-6 years before GOT.
Rome got cancelled because it was very expensive. They really put the money into sets and costumes. Also, BBC and the Italian production studio only had a 2 season commitment and couldn't agree to continue it. Basically the BBC didn't want to pay for another season.
People are confusing this with Deadwood and John from Cincinnati. Deadwood got cancelled because of its high cost and David Milch was more excited about the other show.
The Rome actors were later in GOT largely because production of both shows took place in Europe.

The casting was perfect. Not beautiful yet also not ugly but still sexy af.

Fair enough. I didn't know the show even existed until recently.
I was going off of what someone posted here earlier. Thought maybe they were being clever saying "can't remember the name of the show".
Either way, I'm enjoying it

Great show that went into production too early. If it had come out after the Roman Empire niche and VOD streaming picked up steam, the show might still be running.

Poor Titus. Freed the slave girl so he could marry her only to find out she wanted to marry someone else.

loved season 1 but Lucius’ story at the end is pretty depressing. I haven’t watched season 2 but I felt so bad for the guy I didn’t have the want to see any more of it.
