Gets blown out by Vanderbilt. Vandrbilt! They hired a guy who never finished higher than fourth in his conference at San Francisco.

Its amazing the Florida AD blew his opportunity to brag that he hired the worst coach in Florida history and graciously allowed Fat Scott to hire the worst coach in LSU history!

All he had to do was look at their comparative records in the spring of 2022:

Tood Golden

2019–20 San Francisco 22–12 9–7 5th
2020–21 San Francisco 11–14 4–9 8th
2021–22 San Francisco 24–10 10–6 4th NCAA Division I Round of 64

San Francisco: 57–36 (.613) 23–22 (.511)

Matt MCmahon

Murray State Racers (Ohio Valley Conference) (2015–2022)
2015–16 Murray State 16–14 10–6 T–1st (West)
2016–17 Murray State 16–17 8–8 3rd (West)
2017–18 Murray State 26–6 16–2 1st NCAA Division I Round of 64
2018–19 Murray State 28–5 16–2 T–1st NCAA Division I Round of 32
2019–20 Murray State 23–9 15–3 T–1st No postseason held
2020–21 Murray State 13–13 10–10 T–5th
2021–22 Murray State 31–3 18–0 1st NCAA Division I Round of 32

Murray State: 153–67 (.695) 93–31 (.750)

Yea but obviously Florida AD realized he needed a coach with an actual personality and the ability to evaluate talent. Fat Scott didnt. How many national championships has Mcloser won Tigersbb?

San Francisco had not been to the ncaa tournament in 25 years before Golden arrived. He a reputation for being an analytics guru and was well respected in coaching circles.

What’s your point? That you’re retarded?!? We don’t need multiple threads confirming this. Please show us mercy

Yeah it's a tough pill to swallow that McMahon was objectively a good hire and better hire than Golden, on paper, in the spring of 2022.

This board won't hear that tough.

It didn't work out. It is what it is.

This is exactly what I'm talking about lmao. What ability had Todd Golden shown in March of 2022 that MM didn't? How had he shown an ability to "identify talent" better than MM at that point?

Auburn was bottom 4 in the conference the entirety of his time there.

San Fransisco made 1 total NCAA tournament in his 6 seasons on the staff. There was one single NBA player to play at the University of San Fransisco in the 6 seasons that Todd Golden was on staff.

Also, the "personality" of Todd Golden would have gotten him fired if his team wasn't good enough to compete for a title.

There was not one single indicator that Todd Golden was going to be more successful than Matt McMahon in the spring of 2022.

At the time of the hire, it was thought of as laughably bad.

I honestly preferred McMahon over Golden at the time. Not that my opinion on that matters at all

That reputation and analytical approach resulted in one single NCAA tournament appearance in 13 years of coaching before his second season at UF

Lets not overlook the stalking charges brought against Golden last year. The school investigted and found no evidence they were true, but these charges never go away and it would not be surprising that a suit is filed at some point. Perhaps some of those similar things may have been talked about at San Fran and the last thing LSU needed was to hire someone with such baggage given all of the Title IX allegations and harassment charges against Miles and Verge. It doesn; t matter that those claims were dismissed it would have continued to shine a negativelight on the school.

True and the plain fact remains Golden has not lost major players to injuries for the past two seasons and McMahon has. Golden did not have to recruit under the cloud of an NCAA investigation and McMahon did.

At that time in history - more AD's would have hired CMM than Golden. Hell, I would have. And that's even before anyone knew Golden was a creeper/pervert. I was wrong and they those that would have done the same were wrong - at least as far as the bottom line - winning games and succeeding scenario. The creeper thing may still rear it's ugly head before all is said and done.

It's not an exact science. CMM was in over his skies here. I wish he'd have done better here.
