Released yesterday. Just getting into it now. I really liked season 1.
But I was so much younger then.

Um, can adults who aren’t weebs enjoy this show?

first episode wasn't good
Nothing followed in any meaningful way
Just seemed like random bullshite happened, people responded randomly, and then it ended
The acting was worse than at any point in S1. Like every one of them is trying to outdo Koby's horrendous S1 acting.
Buggy is the only character that really nailed the assignment
Usopp finally did a useful thing, on purpose, which was weird.
I think it will get better, and they are just getting back into the groove.
I mean, damn I hope. S1 was a top tier Netflix adaptation

But I am a fan of One Piece live action

The first two episodes are okay, but they don't seem to have retained the magic of S1. I feel like they had a lot of momentum going from S1 but they waited too long to release S2 and excitement cooled.
It's still okay. I never watched the cartoon so I don't know about all of the race swaps and troon swaps they've done with several characters. It looks to be building up to an interesting conclusion, but we'll see.

Season 1? Absolutely. It’s a weird, quirky world full of strange characters, but the writing and acting is so good in season one that it doesn’t take long to buy into it. It’s a fun blend of like a light hearted Pirates of the Caribbean vibe with this hybrid of 18th century and modern technology that starts off weirdly jarring but starts to jell by episode three. The way it develops its characters by showing you who they are and getting you to root for them really works.

My dad is a 68yo attorney and just watched it on a whim one night and he liked it

It picks up in episodes 3 and 4, with great fight scenes and interesting new places/villains.

Before the live action I’d never even heard of One Piece. I had heard of Cowboy Bebop before, which I think is even older, but seeing how the live action was so botched for that series I gave little hope at this one. Because the same people were behind both.
But I loved season one & season two is pretty good as well.

Agree to disagree. I thought the first episode was really good.

Same, never heard of it until I saw Season 1. Writing and acting (for the most part) is good. The color palette for the show draws you in. S2 E1 has a lot going on with a bunch of new characters introduced. It is a bit chaotic but I chalk it up to me having no clue about the anime season other than there are over 1,000 episodes. No way in hell am I going to try to tackle the anime series.

I agree. Im not 40 yet but i took season 1 for what it was and enjoyed it.
Its a live action anime. I watched dbz growing up so i compared it to that.
If someone doesnt like it thats fine, but season 1 accomplished its goal and i enjoyed it. Will watch s2 soon
I think people see every high rated show and think they are tuning in to the next sopranos. A show can be a really good version of itself (like this or Wednesday) and deserve high praise

Nami seems much older now and does not seem to be in the role. I admit the script is not the best for her role in the show.
Monkey D. Luffy the first season's energy is not there, and directing is a major problem. There are two scenes, I was like you kept that take when it was easy to tell they needed to do it over,
Roronoa Zoro tired hard with a bad script.
Usopp were they trying hard to make him a better character?
Lacks the energy and drive of the first season, still better than 90% of the new shows on TV.

Yes, I can't do anime despite my kid's best efforts but I really enjoyed the first season.

I have not seen season 1. I have seen all of the anime. I watched the first episode of season 2 and thought it followed the spirit of the anime pretty well.
Luffy is a dumb, happy, full of faith in himself, ambitious goofball. Buggy is less a goofball than he is in the anime. The Buggy in the anime is constantly getting his plans foiled and reacting like Wile E. Coyote. In the live action, he’s basically psychotic.
But I liked it overall. Smoker was well done. Bringing Barto in this early is actually kind of great. Was impressed by it, honestly, because the anime has gotta be tough to adapt. It is a TON of content and the physical things being done would require a lot of CG. The later seasons of the anime are even harder.
ETA: for those who know, the first episode of season 2 sets a LOT up. The number of drops in it that will come back later is pretty high.

I got around 60-70 eps in & then hit pause. Not sure if I’ll push to finish or not but if there’s another 2 years until S 3…

Zoro's running side story of his Mihawk quest is really well done. I was told we'd not get to see Mihawk this season, so I was really glad in how it played out.

Just put it on in the background of chores or whatever. The English dub is pretty good, actually.
