When asked repeatedly about improprieties in the 2020 election, Cassidy...

... sent letters to his constituents assuring that there was no evidence of impropriety. These letters assured the readers that multiple courts had considered the issue and that -- and this is a quote, exclamation point and all -- "not one!" had found any impropriety.
When constituents wrote back to Cassidy asking that he provide citations to the court cases that actually examined the evidence, he refused to respond (because, of course, he could not provide the requested citations, as none existed).
This is Bill Cassidy. This is also the apparatus of the Republican party, which gives us the Cassidy's, Murkowski's and Raffenbergers without regard to the best interests of the American citizenry. Cassidy did not care that his constituents had concerns about the integrity of our elections.
And neither does the Republican Party, which currently controls both houses of Congress, as is evidenced by the current Save Act debacle.

This was the real failure that nobody talks about.
Ultimately the courts turned their backs and failed to do their duty.
Goes for both the 2020 election and Covid.

Judges are chosen the same way our politicians are: carefully, for their ability to be controlled and elected.

Of course, none of the courts actually let the cases get so far as to look at evidence. Rather, the cases were dismissed early on procedural grounds, such as lack of standing.
Conveniently, Mr. Cassidy omitted this critical fact from his letters. Both he and the Republican apparatus didn't want to even discuss it. If you had concerns about it, tough.

Dear fat bastard from TD.com:
Thank you for writing in with your comments on the second impeachment trial of former President Trump. This is an important topic and I appreciate hearing from you.
The House of Representatives impeached Trump for the second time on January 13, 2021 with the charge of “inciting violence against the government of the United States.” On January 25, 2021, the House impeachment managers delivered the single article of impeachment to the United States Senate.
At issue, are the events that took place on January 6, 2021. As you are aware, rioters violently breached the halls of Congress in an attempt to disrupt the electoral vote certification and the peaceful transfer of power. This was wrong, seditious, and ultimately resulted in the deaths of multiple individuals.
There was a vote on the constitutionality of having a trial for a former president on February 9, 2021. I voted that it was constitutional. We heard arguments from both sides. The House Managers quoted the Constitution, conservative jurists, including the cofounder of the Federalist Society, Founding Fathers, the Federalist Papers, and different documents that influenced the writing of the Constitution. They made clear that it is constitutional. They did such a great job that the President’s lawyers got up and said that they did a great job and that they would change their strategy. They then spent two hours talking about everything but his issue, except for maybe five minutes. They effectively conceded their point. If you disagree with my vote and would like an explanation, I ask that you listen to the arguments presented by the House Managers and former President Trump’s lawyers. The House managers had much stronger constitutional arguments. The president’s team did not. This vote was not a prejudgment on the final vote to convict. I’ve also heard that there are some folks who think that I should put President Trump above the Constitution. That’s not Conservatism. That’s not Republicanism. And I reject it.
While I am strongly against the actions that took place on January 6, 2021, I will keep an open mind at the trial and look forward to hearing the arguments of both sides and getting answers. Just like the first impeachment trial, I will uphold my oath to be an impartial juror and vote based on the evidence presented. Everyone, even a former president, is entitled to a defense and to have all of the facts be heard. The vote on February 9, 2021 was not a prejudgment on the final vote to convict. Please know that I understand all points of view on this impeachment trial, even those that disagree with me.
I will continue to represent the views of my state and do so through hearing from constituents like you. Please continue to reach out, either by phone or by email, when you have another question or concern. You can reach my office in Washington DC at 202-224-5824 or submit an email at LINK
Sincerely,
Bill Cassidy

How sad is it that most Republicans *still* can’t get over the fact that Trump lost in 2020? Answer: really sad.
