I’ll believe it when I see it. It’s gonna take millions and millions to get it back even to playable.

Would be Epic if it would happen. Back when it was open my group tried to get up there once a month. Definitely would frequent it again if possible

I live there but actually stopped playing before closure. I will say before the meta center was announced i heard from a member of the council that this could well happen. I know, i know...but you can dream.

It’ll never be ready in time.

Legit was the first comment that came to mind

Was talking to one of my buddies who lives in there and plays golf but never played there (just moved there a few years back). I live 10 minutes away. I'd pay a good amount of money to be a member if it is done correctly, and I think a lot of others would too.

You have to imagine they writing have to regrass everything. Are they cutting the grass still?

They aren't doing anything. It's a complete rebuild. You have a layout. That's it.

I can already see the angry idiot homeowner billboard bitching about the hoa fees and course access.

I was actually messing around with Gemini yesterday trying to see what renovations could be done, and this is what it gave me, so I thought I'd share:

THE BLUFFS 2028: A "HIGH-PARKLAND" MASTER PLAN
Target Opening: April 2028
Architectural Inspiration: The Aronimink Restoration (Hanse), Oakmont Scale, and Augusta Recovery.
THE VISION
We are moving away from the "tight forest" layout of the 1980s. The Bluffs at Thompson Creek will be transformed into a High-Parkland masterpiece. The goal is a landscape that feels "grand" rather than "cramped," emphasizing the dramatic St. Francisville topography while ensuring elite turf health.
1. THE ARBOR PLAN: "THE MINK" RESTORATION
Inspired by the recent work at Aronimink, we are abandoning the "wall of trees" look in favor of Specimen Spacing.
The "Tall & Thick" Strategy: We will remove all "trash" trees, underbrush, and thin-trunked secondary growth. Only the most majestic, thick-trunked hardwoods and "Specimen" Oaks will remain.
The Savannah Look: Trees will be singular or in small, intentional clusters with significant spacing between them. This allows the sun to reach our new TifEagle greens and creates the "Augusta Forest" floor—where pine needles and mulch make ball-finding effortless.
Vista Reclimation: Removing the "filler" trees will reveal the 50-foot drops into the ravines that have been hidden for decades.
2. THE HAZARD STRATEGY: "OAKMONT SCALE"
Instead of 80+ small, high-maintenance bunkers, we are shifting to a "Great in Measure, Low in Quantity" philosophy.
Iconic Hazards: We will feature fewer bunkers, but the ones that remain will be massive and iconic. Think of a "Thompson Creek Pew" or a sprawling "Sahara" bunker that frames an entire fairway.
Maintenance Efficiency: By reducing the number of bunkers, the grounds crew can focus on keeping a few world-class hazards pristine rather than rushing to rake dozens of small traps after every rain.
Grass Hollows: Where bunkers are removed, they will be replaced with deep, rolling "Grass Hollows" mown to fairway height. This maintains the difficulty of the approach shot but keeps the course "mow-able" and playable for all levels.
3. THE PLAYABILITY FACTOR: "AUGUSTA RECOVERY"
A hallmark of Augusta National is that while the course is difficult, it is rarely "lost."
Findable Balls: By spacing out the trees and clearing the undergrowth, a stray shot is no longer a "lost ball" penalty. You will find your ball and almost always have a creative "recovery window" to punch back into play.
Pace of Play: This "Augusta" approach will likely shave 10-15 minutes off the average round. Members spend their time hitting shots, not searching in the woods.
4. THE LIFESTYLE & CLUBHOUSE
The 18th Overlook: A new, expansive shaded balcony will serve as the social epicenter. It will feature high-pressure misters and industrial fans, offering an unobstructed "birds-eye" view of the finishing hole.
The "Punch Bowl" Social Green: Replacing the old helipad will be a Himalayas-style putting course. This will be lit for night play, allowing members to engage in social "putting matches" directly adjacent to the clubhouse balcony.
5. THE ROADMAP TO APRIL 2028
2026: The "Great Clear." Removing secondary growth and reclaiming the original Palmer corridors. Initial irrigation and drainage overhaul.
2027: The "Grow-In." Shaping the large-scale hazards and sprigging the TifEagle greens. Construction of the 18th Overlook balcony.
Spring 2028: THE GRAND OPENING. A fully matured, "High-Parkland" layout ready for the national spotlight.

Hopefully. Problem is, they repeat the same bs about it being 30 mins from Baton Rouge. It’s not. It’s an hour if you are lucky with traffic. I love the course but it’s not easy to get there quickly. Lodging on the course could help for weekend visits.
I ran Waze from Sherwood/Coursey Intersection at lunch today and it is 41 miles and 51 minutes to the clubhouse. No traffic on interstate at that time.

I noticed that too. Government Street and north it might be 40/45 minutes because you miss the common traffic areas. South of government its going to be at least 1 hour most days.
Would be nice to get the Bluffs going and False River with its brand new 18. Then you have Beaver and Copper Mill back south a little.

I commute every work day. It takes me 40 minutes from the bluffs to bocage. That’s going down freeland road. Not around to 965.

It does take longer going to the bluffs at rush hour when I leave. But not on weekends or in the middle of the day. Fwiw

Its a 12 to 15M dollar reno. Already been estimated by the Palmer course folks.
The driver from LSU campus is around 40 min. Source, I do it every week.
You all drive further to play Carter or the Islands.
On the course membership, if they go that route I expect it to be high. I also expect most who live in the neighborhood to not join.
