It’s been hot all day in New Orleans. Imagine the atmosphere north of here is pretty volatile.

My fiancee and I were in New Orleans this weekend and it was very humid.

Absolutely pissed rain on us twice earlier amidst the regular moderate rain. Lightning was non-stop.

Got a dry thunder storm warning this afternoon. Lightning starts hitting this dry ground, place is going to go up like a tinderbox.

Where are you? The next few weeks aren't looking great. Fire season could kick off early for a lot of folks.

Texas panhandle, north of Amarillo. We’ve already had a few in last couple weeks.

ETA-I’ve been out scouting for turkeys and the vegetation crumbles when you walk through it. It’s been a very dry fall/winter and humidity has been very low.

I followed the ones with the last Critical fire weather day. You all, OK, and KS along the border had a scary day.

Suspicious storm near Jasper, AL northwest of Birmingham. It’s spinning but no tornado warning at this point.

The worst that came over us in north AL had broad rotation, too. Not a lot of strong wind with it, 30mph gust, but enough wind to make the rain change directions. It never got severe warned until it got a little stronger to our east.

The big one SW of us was rolling along pretty good, but wind died down when it got close to major highway. Firefighters did a hell of a job getting it under control. It’s unsettling to walk out in the morning and it smells like an ashtray and sky is gray.

Looking at the Drought Map, California is solid white — pretty much the only/largest part of the country not in some level of drought. That is a silver lining for everyone else, as it should free up resources, especially for early and mid season. I have a feeling they will be needed.

This stretch of wet weather should help the SE, especially AL with its drought. The big difference in us being dry and you all out west is that they've doing prescribed burns through the dry spell here. Can't do that everywhere.
