Tough to compare this team to a team that won a national championship, but here are the stats 17 games in. It all boils down to not scoring as much and the opponents scoring more.

Now why that is happening is for the coaches to figure out and the players to work on correcting.

Much worse performance this year all around... Honestly, I didn't expect this much of a drop.

Pitching wise, losing Kade, Shores, and Eyanson hurt, but I thought a combination of Evans, Schmitt, and Cooper would be solid... not to mention returning Williams, Cowan, and Rizzy, and getting Guidry and Sheerin. We also brought in 3 really good Freshman arms that thought could be like another Evans or Williams for this year's team.

Offensively, I thought we'd a slight uptick in production. I feel dumb about that now.

I knew Yorke wouldn't match Bear, but thought he'd be better than this. I also knew that Dar Dar and Simpson/ Braun weren't likely to match Frey and Dickinson, but I thought they'd be a lot closer.

I figured Bide and maybe Serna would be better than Hernandez, Carroway would be better than Braswell, and figured we'd see improvements in Milam, Brown, Curiel, and Stanfield but it's just been Brown so far.

Overall, as expected, we're missing Kade, Bear, Frey, and Dickinson more than I thought we would along with Shores and Eyanson.

I think this year's team actually has better depth in both pitching and position players, but man no one is stepping up and claiming their role. The weekend rotation is probably set and looking up, but relievers are stulling and there are only 3-4 position players who are set as starters IMO.

It’s like trying to hit against a pitching staff full of Brett Favre’s.

This feels like a Mainieri team, errors, horrible at bats, looks like they are just going through the motions.
I Still think they get it together but man they are tough to watch playing like this. We will see how good CJJ really is.

What’s shocking is this drop off happened without any coaching changes and with top incoming players whose collective talent was thought to exceed all peers.

That leaves the players.

Ummmmmmm we already know.
He’s elite and the best coach in college baseball currently. He’s won two World Series titles in the past three years.

At least yesterday, I thought they were hurrying their swings.

But baw, don't you know he won the first one because he had Skenes and Crews and he won last year because they were lucky?

Its just a really bad stretch. Haven't seen a Jay team struggle this bad at the plate for this many games.

Allowing 37 more runs over same game span is pretty telling.

Agreed, never said he wasn’t elite. But if he can get this turned around it will be impressive. I don’t recall any of the previous teams looking like what we are showing now.
I expect he will right the ship, but they are struggling with few consistent bright spots against lesser talented teams.
