I just saw a clip of his highlights and his ball handling was phenomenal. He made crazy plays look easy. His passing was top notch. He was also a good shooter. He won a championship with the Heat as the starting point guard and was a very unselfish player. You just never hear about him anymore but he was an amazing player.

Turnover machine who couldn’t shoot. The Kings became title contenders when they swapped him for Bibby.

Fun to watch though.

Was just coming to post this. Did he make the routine play? He was a highlight machine and was incredible to watch. But it felt like his unselfish play was actually selfish.

He was actually a better “player” at the end of his career in Miami when he was more of a floor general and not trying to do too much.

Chris Mullen is. The dude was 3 x big east player of the year. On the Dream team, and won gold in the next Olympics too. He’s a HOF, but is lost to time. He would absolutely dominate in today’s game.

Yeah, even though they clashed, I think Hubie Brown was able to rein him in a bit in Memphis.

That would’ve sucked to play against Williams and Randy Moss in HS

He’s much better on a highlight reel. He was a pretty average guard if you ever watched a whole game.

Good call. Him and Alex English seem to fall through the cracks of all-time greats and are never on anybody's lips when it comes to those discussions.

When you talk about his accomplishments versus the pantheon of basketball history, the answer is John Havlicek. It's not really close.

This. If he would've protected the basketball better and worked on his shot, he could've been a HOF'er. That's probably true of a lot of players, but he was definitely entertaining. I always thought he'd take that next step, but never did.

1985 everyone remembers Georgetown and Villanova championship, but St. John's went 14-1 in Big East play , and also made the Final Four that season.

As he started to settle down and play smarter basketball, he started having knee and foot issues. Lost a lot of his speed and explosiveness. But his later years in Miami and Orlando were much more efficient. His ball handling and creativity is top 5 all time. He changed the game a bit when he came in the league. imo his game would translate better in today’s game.

Eta: cool story, I went watch the kings in Houston his second year in the league, and as I was court side watching the pre game shoot around, he called me onto the court. I chatted with him for a couple minutes until security caught on. He and I both got fussed at by security. Lol

YouTube - kings were must see

One of the most fun players of all time to watch when he was with the Kings, but as said for every incredible behind the back highlight pass he had another would end up in the third row. He was also a high volume shooter on low efficiency which is not great. There's a reason why the Kings traded him for Mike Bibby (and leveled up immediately after doing so). To his credit he respected the hell out of Hubie Brown and Brown was able to coach a lot of that stuff out of him in Memphis (almost all of the plays you see in his highlight reels are from his time with the Kings, but that was only 3 seasons of his career). He wasn't nearly as fun to watch anymore, but was a much better player and got to be a starting point guard on a championship team in Miami, which is something he never would have achieved playing the way he did as White Chocolate.

Mullen is probably the most "voice doesn't match his face" athlete of all time. You see the pasty white skin and the high-and-tight haircut and assume he's some Indiana farm boy, but then he opens his mouth and you remember he's straight up Brooklyn to his core

Randy Moss is probably second on that list, mayne.

His assist-to-turnover ratio wasn't that bad, and he did have some deep range, but I definitely would not call him the most underrated.
His flashy style still keeps his highlights circulating currently, and he gets plenty of recognition for the way he played.
Where someone is "rated" is kind of nebulous, but I'd say someone like Nick Van Exel is more underrated than Williams.

Pascal Siakam is one of the most underrated active players to me.
