Is a club fitting worth it for a mid handicap golfer?

Got back into the game last year after about a 10 year pause (Busy with Life). Worked consistently all last year just making good contact and have an established 18 handicap at the moment. I’m looking to get a new set of irons this year since I’m still rocking some R9 TP’s from many years ago when I was playing a lot. Have never been fitted for a set of clubs before and am interested in others opinions on a fitting and if it can or will help.

IMO, absolutely. That's all that needs to be said. Pretty sure we have a couple of legit teaching pros here. Burke and BeaverPro? Hopefully they chime in.

How much it will help your game depends on a lot of factors, but it can’t hurt. And if you’re wanting a brand new set, it shouldn’t cost you a thing. If you purchase the clubs from the fitter, they typically waive the fitting fee. The manufacturer doesn’t charge extra to build the clubs to your specs.
Plus it’s a free hour long session on the sim. Go for it.

You should definitely go get fitted. Take your time and find something you like. It will help for sure.

I got fitted in 2022 when I was a 15. I had no idea what I was doing going in and came out with a better understanding of all the different numbers. Ask questions and swing your swing. The club data is very interesting but the ball data will be more telling. You'd be surprised how much spin varies from different combos. Same clubhead speed can result in more-/less ball speed aka smash factor. Some top lines you just don't want to look down at, some you'll love. 4 years later I've played down to an 8 and just had a driver fitting that I was able to really get into because of my previous experience. Walked out with a driver I hit further and straighter. Point being, gotta start somewhere and data is data. It's fun regardless.

Define worth it? Willl it help? Of course
But is it “worth” it to spend the money for the after market shafts at possibly greater than 1k if you only play once or twice a month? Depends on how you view things

I used nothing but off the shelf until 3 years ago. Started playing more got a few lessons then got fitted for irons and woods .. made a big difference in my game. Handicap has slowly come down from 15+ to an 8.6 as of today. I’ll probably end up doing the same process this year. Few more lessons on a few things and a refitting on Driver and Irons as well as wedges this time. Really trying to work my way down to scratch.. But I’d say if you’re using 10 yr old equipment a fitting would definitely benefit especially since you have past playing experience

Yes
A lot of places will do fitting free with club purchase

I’m in the same boat and have been debating the need for a fitting as well since I’m in the market for new clubs.
My handicap hovers around +18-20, I typically shoot anywhere in the 90s. I’ve had the same set of ping irons and wedges for 17 years, got them when I was 13 and over a foot shorter. My driver and 3wood I got used 8 years ago.
Would a fitting help out that much, or would just buying off the rack be fine?

A fitting with someone who knows what they are doing would help you too for sure.

I would say yes. I'm a high handicap and was recently fitted for a new driver. I can say that the difference is noticeable.
That experience now has me stopping in to demo different clubs here and there just to try different things and see the difference. I have a good set of clubs, but I'm finding that there's better clubs out there for me. I have a feeling that my entire bag will be changed before the end of the year.
