Someone explain this to me like I’m 5

Per the filing: "If courts can intervene in NCAA eligibility decisions to provide special treatment to favored athletes then the NCAA’s ability to ensure fair athletic competition" will be at "the whims of trial courts."

They are appealing to the Appellate Court, because they don't think Trinidad should have any extra eligibility.

he's gonna get screwed

They are saying some crooked alumni judge shouldn’t make eligibility decisions for the ncaa?

What would be the timeline on that though. Is that an immediate appeal or will that be closer to next year?

Ole Miss filed a lawsuit against the NCAA in Judge Goober's jurisdiction. Judge Goober is an Ole Miss grad and couldn't hold back his excitement that he got the chance to rule the Ole Miss quarterback eligible to come back and play his 5th season. The NCAA didn't even pay attention to Judge Goober because it was known before the trial that the Hotty Toddy Judge was going to rule in favor of his RebelBear football team.
The NCAA has filed an appeal to an unbiased appellate court who will now look at the facts of the case without prejudice.

This was expected. NCAA pretty much had to appeal it. If they didn't appeal it then they pretty much would have lost all authority over eligibility.
...now they still might lose, but they were backed into a corner and now have to fight everything.

Simple: The NCAA operates at the whims of the local trial court.

While in Louisiana, I had a Motion granted back in December of 2024. Opposing side appealed within the delays (brief extensions were given). Pleadings were filed in March of 2025.
Did not get a ruling from the Appellate Court until February 12th, 2026.
Sometimes, appeals get wrapped up in 3 months. Unfortunately there isn't really a concrete answer.

I’d like to see it drag out to the 3rd weekend of season and have him ruled ineligible and OM have to forfeit first 2 games

Yeah, simple. NCAA shouldn't exist. That's your answer. They do nothing to exist other than put their hand in the cookie jar and screw everything they can up. They have no power or teeth to do anything other than make the sport worse. They're going to lose this appeal but it's just another last breath effort for the NCAA to hold onto existing to make $$$ and continue to screw the sport over.

Yes, he'd get paid a ton of NIL, but that's just for 1 year. He'd get drafted high, for a lot more money over the course of his rookie deal.
I don't get it.

I think Chambliss is a great player, but him getting another year of eligibility is ludicrous (but so is everything about the new college football soft landscape so what do I know.)

Yes.
This would make the NCAA completely impotent.

So do the rest of the sports just return to club level? Does each conference mange them? How would that work?
Or
Did you forget that the NCAA manages a lot more than just football?

They have no choice. They will become totally obsolete if they don’t fight this because everyone going forward will appeal eligibility in state courts to receive extra years whether they deserve it or not. Chambliss got some bad advice to return to school. He should have gone to the NFL while his stock is high.

Also, the courtroom was more like the grove than an honest hearing.

Does the Mississippi Supreme Court also have ole Miss alumni?

Any idea when the appellate case may be settled? Because until then isn't he allow him to play?
