Had a pretty gnarly wipeout yesterday on the slopes at a high rate of speed after my right ski hit a rock. Right leg buckled under me and I landed right on my left shoulder blade.

I basically have a 3rd tit over my left clavicle currently and while I can move the arm up and down, it’s too stiff and painful to lift anything. I’m fearing the worst. Headed to local urgent care in an hour.

Any of you baws have experiences with a broken or bruised clavicle? Seems to be relatively common for folks who ski or mountain bike.

Broke mine playing football, had to wear button up shirts for 2 months because I couldn't get my right arm up over my head. Have had a couple of broken bones and a broken collar bone sucks

I did about 4 years ago at 55 thinking i could still play shortstop. Kicked my foot came down on my shoulder and hear a snap.

After ER visit and then meeting with doc/surgeon - because I had about 90% full movement with minimal pain after healing, they decided to not do surgery.

Weather changes bother me a little and occasionally I have a crunchy sound and a brief sting in there but doc said prior to about 100 years ago most people led their lives with broken collar bones.

He said surgery could reattach it but no guarantee I would get any better movement, possible worse and recovery time was going to be long.

I was in a sling for about two weeks before swelling and pain subsided. Each day got better and better.

It can get soar sometimes when I work out but nothing more than any other aches and pains getting old.

I have to add, we did use a bone stimulator for a few months to no avail. It never reattached.

Broken collarbone doesn’t seem like too good an idea.

Yes, also separated my shoulder at the same time.

I immediately vomited from the pain.

Thankfully the ER knocked me out before putting my shoulder back in place.

Don't recommend either injury.

Reason #42 why I don’t snow ski.

(Not hating on it, it just doesn’t work risk:reward for me)

Speedy recovery.

Yep…snapped mine in half near the breast plate. Not the usual place to break it and it sucked.

If it makes you feel any better, when I was 10 years old, I was swimming in the ocean near the Florida/Alabama border. I had a net with me and noticed $20 floating in the water. I swiped it and ran out so excited to show my parents. Got a nice toy with it.

I have when I was a teen. It sucked but not worse than having a thumb spica hard cast up to my armpit for 3 months because of a broken scaphoid.

Broken mine twice. Flipped over a bike and sports repeat.

I've put several back together. Simple plate and screws. If you have to get that, you can leave the plate in or have it removed if it bothers you over time.
Increased risk of infection if you have them go back in.

Did you get your xray?

Xray is in, officially a break. Guess I’ll be out of the gym for at least a month
