my 2022 sierra slt started running like crap yesterday pm: rough idle, pronounced “bump” at the rear end when coming to a stop, service esc light, service parking brake, check engine light all came on at same time. also uses a little oil. it’s gor 87k miles. ideas other than “it’s a gmc” jokes?

do you have the 5.3? May have a lifter going out, or something causing a misfire. I would get a scanner and see what the codes are.

yes, it’s the 5.3. wasn’t there a recall on this? i never received it if so

I know of one that did this but it only had 30 something thousand miles. The dealer replaced the transmission fluid with another type of oil (per factory recommendation) and reset all codes. No issues since.

No recall for the lifters but there is a class action lawsuit. My 2019 Silverado was shifting hard into 2nd and a fluid change fixed it like the above poster said.
It rough idle isn't a transmission issue, its either miss firing or a lifter is going out. Best advice I can give is get a code reader and report back the codes or if it under warranty still drop that POS off at the dealership...
I say POS because I just had to get the engine in my 5.3 replaced because of a similar issue and was 3 months out of warranty but under the mileage.

Pretty sure it's just the 6.2 that's recalled. I have you checked the battery? I know it seems crazy but I've read about many having weird issues like this with a bad battery. I have a 22 Yukon.

Put >300,000 miles on a 99 & 04 5.3 with zero problems. GM gets the prize for Fing up once Extremely dependable engines.
None of the Big3 produce consistent quality anymore and Toyota is trying to mimic them.

I just changed the battery a few months ago

Wouldn’t go by that.
I bought one for my daughter’s car once got it all changed out in the parking lot of AutoZone and it wouldn’t do anything.
Guy came out to test it and it was bad. Got another and tested it before I installed it. Bad.
3rd time was the charm.
It only lasted a couple of years though.

My next-door neighbor has a 2019 Silverado with the 5.3. He has over 805,000 miles on it and has only changed the water pump.

Does he drive to Alaska and back monthly?

Basically. He owns his own courier service and it is a one- man operation. He has the oil changed every 2 weeks. He is, however on his third transmission.

Good example of miles driven not being an iron-clad meter of the overall vehicle quality.
Engines love to be in motion. Its the age, cold starts and city driving that will determine the overall quality of a rig.
A truck with 300k on it but only 5 years old is only telling part of the story.
