The Republican Party in Tennessee has disallowed 149 candidates for positions in TN from running as Republicans. Most are now running as Independents. This is mostly due to not voting in primaries.
“notes that a "bona fide" Republican is defined as: an individual who a) is actively involved in the Tennessee Republican Party, the county Republican Party of the county in which the individual resides, or a TRP-recognized auxiliary organization, b) is registered to vote in the county; and c) who has voted in at least three of the four most recent statewide Republican primary elections in which he is eligible to vote.”

For the record these are mostly for positions like County Commissioner.

I'm a staunch conservative but a registered Independent in the great State of Oklahoma.
Closed primary for Republicans, so I'm disallowed from voting in their primaries, but the Dims have open primaries so it allows me to really mess with them with my vote. And I love messing with them.
