Have they decided when SKC Renovations will happen?

When will SKC renovations happen? I know Fletcher had some idea about an area revitalization a couple of weeks ago. Houston is getting arena renovations all funded by the owner! Not the city or state. Must be nice,

The @ToyotaCenter seat renovation project is making rapid progress. Upper level is entirely complete, and several lower-level sections have changed over, as well. (New seats are black.) All will be completed by this summer. Funded entirely by the Rockets and @TilmanJFertitta

The difference is that Houston has an active owner. The Pels do not.
Lauscha is going to do his best so that the cabal has to kick in the least amount of money towards a renovation.
They’ll laud a plan that puts about $250m into a building that needs to be torn down.
SKC was a $250m building built on a $100m budget because Mike Foster did not care for the area unless it was coming to the boat show.

Maybe we can buy the Toyota Center's old chairs at a discount. They are an upgrade to what we have

Both SKC and the dome need new seats or finish replacing them. It would be an inexpensive fix, but somehow St Catherine needs money towards a turf field in exchange for naming rights.

Fertitta is still light years better than Gayle. I’d rather Pels have someone who is willing to try and remedy the problems themself vs depending on people whose sole goal is to line their own pockets.

Don’t waste money on a renovation when the team will soon be gone.

The team isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

Lease does expire in 2029. That is in 3 years. Guess we will burn that bridge when we get there.

Soon, Benson and state officials will “have to figure out a plan for Smoothie King Center.” The flare up in May“appears to be behind both parties now.” The Pelicans' lease at Smoothie King Center expires in June 2029

In New Orleans, Jeff Duncan wrote everyone from “team to league to state officials, agrees something needs to be done about the Pelicans’ long-term arena issue.” What exactly that is “remains to be seen.” There is “nothing state-of-the-art in the Smoothie King Center.” A new arena is the “pie-in-the-sky solution.” Unfortunately, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry and state legislators have “shown little motivation for a new arena project in downtown New Orleans,” especially on the heels of a $560M renovation of the Caesars Superdome. A renovation “appears to be the Pelicans’ best bet.” The Smoothie King Center’s structure, small footprint and location alongside I-10 “limit the room for expansion, especially on the south side of the building.” A major makeover would “force the Pelicans to relocate to another venue for at least one season.” The Pelicans need to “contribute to the cause.” With a potential $400M windfall from NBA expansion looming, Benson and team officials “certainly will have the means to make it happen.” That is “found money, and it needs to be part of the equation,” whether a renovation or new arena project “is pursued.” It is “not hyperbole to say the arena situation is the most important issue threatening the long-term viability of the franchise in New Orleans”

There needs to be a real look at reimagining the existing buildings on the current property and possibly working within the confines of such. It would take some effort to move the USPS hub from downtown though.
There needs to be a true, dedicated sports and entertainment district. “Club 44” and Champions Square need to be scrapped and redeveloped. Think of Texas Live.
Build a new arena on the Champions garage space, lots and streets right next to SKC. Have it connected across the Macys tunnel to whatever new entertainment area built. If you tear down USPS buildings, you could have multiple front facing entrances from Dome side and Loyola Ave.
Spend money to clean up the Amtrak/bus station as well. Possibly down the road tie in a street car line that runs right up to the building.

For the people that are actually interested the Lock on Pels guy talks about this subject in the last segment.
The cliffs a new lease is being worked on right now and he said he has seen renderings of SKC renovation and he finished off by saying everything he has been told is this is not going to be a short term lease like 5 years but one that will really tie the team to the city.

I can tell you that it’s going to be underwhelming.

Who is funding this? State has no appetite, and NOLA is lagging property and sales tax receipts early in the Moreno regime (more population and businesses fleeing). There will be real challenges paying off the emergency $125M loan to make payroll. There’s nothing in the cards for a SKC renovation.

It’s a a state facility not a city facility.

It will be funded by the State via hotel motel tax and the Pelicans just like the Dome. There will also be a renovation of Champiins Square and old New Orleans Center parking garage and possibly tearing down the ramp along Poydras for the Dome and creating a tailgating park there. EXpect an announcement this summer. The Governor is on board and has a close working relationship with Mrs Benson and the organization. This will not only help the PELs but the state wants to be g more UFC fights more concerts and Maybe hockey exhibitions to the arena and this will help with the 2031 Suoer Bowl bid

Benson also moving a large portion of the staff down to Poydras too.
