Headed there for Easter. We are looking for recs for the mom&pop/family owned restaurants. The “mangia” type places where Noni are cooking the food.

My favorite this past year in Florence was Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco. Amazing! Get the onion flan for app and boar ragu.

Will you have a car?

Great place in the hills above Florence called Ristorante Da Orlando Monteloro Firenze. Was recommended to me by the couple who own Piccola Gelateria in New Orleans. Just tremendous.

Cant really speak as to authenticity of Nonna or Nonni cooking but plenty of amazing places to recommend. Check out Katie Parla and her online restaurant guides. Note she doesn’t love Florence or Tuscany as she finds them overrated. But Rome just follow her recs.

PS did an intensive quest to find gelato better than Piccola all over Italy. Found quite a few as good but nothing better. Just really lucky to have that shop in New Orleans.

Florence's main market has some incredible places. IIRC the restaurants are on the 2nd floor. Hotel staff (who sent us there) said those places were all locally owned. Great option for lunch.

Trattoria Tito in Florence - hole in the wall, where you sign the wall. Best meal we had and the staff was great

Ristorante Pensavo Peggio on Via del Moro in Florence was amazing. Stumbled into this place and it was great food in a cozy little are. Lot of locals coming in and out picking up food. We got Wild boar and lasagna and tiramisu and it was great. The bread soup looked good too.

Gelateria Artigianale La Sorbettiera Was the best gelato we had in Italy.

We did the Florence Sunset Food Tour with Eating Europe in Florence. I would highly recommend. Stopped at several little delis, and restaurants and heard good food history in a non-touristy area.

Ristorante da Pode just outside San Gimignano.

It's a beautiful local place that has received Michelin stars for years.
