At least sales tax is paid by more than just homeowners.

I'll take a tax that you can control through reduced consumption over getting taxed for having a place to live. One is somewhat optional, the other is not.

And then retail goes tits up in the panhandle when everyone does that? Businesses close, property values go down. I appreciate some good tax avoidance but if you want your home town to be successful, you gotta have actual commerce there.

So help me to understand if my reasoning is correct, please.
State property taxes, and I'm assuming any county, city, school, etc is being deleted for people who own the home, and declare and can prove it's their primary residence and in fact their home.
Check needed on what types of taxes qualify.

In addition, rental properties, apartments, vacation properties, etc remain taxable?

Key word "homestead". Homestead meaning primary residence. FL has the largest inventory of non-homestead homes in the nations. Tax the shite out of them.

So no income tax and no property tax?

The only issue is the continual flood of people from New York who want to get away from the high taxes will move to warp speed.

Florida is one of the only states where no only can this idea work, it could succeed. And it's because we bring in so many dollars via tourism.

The real issue with it is that the state will be in charge of more funding and local governments won't. Which could be a good thing depending on where you live, but Florida has some of the more competent large cities in the country because they are overrun with leftist idiots (generally).
