Dracula (2026)

I went with the girlfriend to this last night and enjoyed it well enough. She actually liked it too and isn’t a big movies girl. Christopher Waltz is excellent and the score by Elfman was good. I feel like his damnation / turn could’ve been a little more clear as to what happened there.
I need to watch the 1992 one to compare because I didn’t remember or know any of the lore. I could be wrong, but I don’t remember Dracula being somewhat of an empathetic figure in that film. He seemed not as ruthless to the humans as I thought

I just recently heard about this, as somehow it wasn't on my radar.
This looks good. Like a movie that is out of time. As in , not made in current day.

I can definitely relate to this feeling. It felt dated in a good way

Did you get laid afterward?

It's basically a remake of the Francis Ford Coppola version from 1992. Many of the scenes are exactly the same, as are the costumes. I didn't like that they changed the location to Paris (although I understand why). The whole idea of Dracula needing a magical perfume to seduce woman was stupid, as were his little gargoyle helpers. Changing the Van Helsing character to an unnamed priest was an odd choice, and some of the CGI was really bad. I would've rather had them move the story to the modern day and follow the plot of the original novel. This movie didn't do it for me.

I agree on the perfume, that didn’t make sense. I thought they could’ve done something more ethereal with him being able to seduce them through his powers
But I liked the gargoyles, actually surprised me because I haven’t seen that before, and thought the CGI was good. They didn’t look fake to me

Alas, she agreed to puppy sit so I was on the back burner. If only I had some perfume

I’m assuming this one isn’t related to the film that took place in NOLA where Dracula was actually Judas

I saw this last fall mostly because of Waltz / Besson connections, but actor playing Dracula was better than I expected. Very similar to Coppola's version and frankly in some ways better but some ways worse too. Worth watching ... once.

Rewatched it recently and it holds up well. Such a trippy, fever dream of a movie.
